@hsmomof3 There are some

Note that GPA and test scores are not necessarily the ONLY criteria. It is my gut feeling that they spread the scholarships around so a NMF may be unlikely to get one since they have the guaranteed NMF package.
I do not know when winners of these scholarships are notified. You could call the Engineering college.
Question…to apply for housing at OU do you have to put up an enrollment deposit?
Okay…we just got cost for NMF cost at OU. Please let me know if you think this is about right.
Tuition $18,897
fees $ 6080
Book and Supplies $645
Housing & Food $10,280
Total Direct Cost $ 35,902
This is per year estimates
National Merit Housing Sch $ 4,200
NMF NR RTW - 5yr $4,575
NMF NRTW- 5 yr $14,322
Oklahoma Ac Scholarship $ 5,500
National Merit stripend $1250
That leaves a difference of $6,055 per year
Does this sound right? Are there more fees than $6,080 per year? That sounds really low for OU fees.
Any opinions? I just want to compare apples to apples and not apples to oranges.
@Tgirlfriend fees depend on what classes you take. .engineering are higher, fees for online class, intersession, chemistry labs, etc. And while the tuition stays the same for 15-20ish credits per semester, each class adds fees- so my D is taking 20 hours this semester and had some hefty fees. All in all-- still a great value! sent you a PM
Our estimate came up a bit higher because of the engineering fees. But you’re in the ball park. I am guessing books will be more than $645/yr in engineering. One of S’s math books this year at a dual enrollment was >$100 used. I also added in travel and incidentals to my estimate. But w/o the travel and incidentals, I am estimating $6465 freshman year and $12,540 sophomore year assuming on campus housing.
I got some clarification from OU on this. Their website says for OOS to assume $7800 for year 1 and $9000 for years 2-4. I couldn’t figure out why it goes up only $1200 when you lose the $4200 housing award (which is for year 1 only). The answer (as I learned when I contacted OU) is that they assume that, after year 1, you will move from Walker ($10,280/yr for room & board) to OU’s Tradition Sq. Apartments (est. $7200/yr for rent & food). If you want to stay in dorms or the new residential colleges, I am estimating that year 2-4 costs are probably more like $12-14k/yr (that’s my estimate, based on housing info on web site). If you use the 5th year tuition waiver, you will need to add another $6750, since the OAS and national merit stipends are only for 4 years. It’s still a good deal, but it doesn’t sit well with me that it is so hard to figure this out.
