Yikes!!!

Just checked OZONE and they have posted how much tuition and fees are for Fall semester for D’s classes (without applying any scholarships including NM) and even without Room and Board, that is one large number!

Scholarships have posted and I feel much better! I finally figured out how to see “which” scholarships have been applied (go to ozone, click on money, under my account, Fall 2016 click on the icon that looks like a credit card to the right of the amount due, then click on view account activity). It turns out more scholarships have actually been applied than currently show in Ozone. One of D’s private scholarships haven’t been applied and that something I was aware and all the NM scholarships that are supposed to go through the bursar’s office are there except the Oklahoma Academic Scholars scholarship ($2750 per semester).

Anyone know when the Oklahoma Academic Scholars scholarship portion of the NM scholarship posts?

@3scoutsmom The “Terms of National Merit Scholarship” document says that it posts after the “free drop/add period” to ensure that students are enrolled as full-time students.

Thanks @WImom94!

Tangentially related, but @3scoutsmom just wanted to let you know that now that I’m entering my fourth year, the Academic Excellence fee is no longer present on my bill. I think you asked about that in a different thread, but can’t remember which one.

Thanks @WoolScarves !!!

I plan to wait until ‘free add/drop’ period to see the final bill. Currently it shows $6400 as balance. It shows academic excellence fee $1200 & Fees Norman UG $1900 and so many other small fees. Even after they post OK Academic Scholarship $2750, it appears, the final bill will come around $3650 for this semester.

Not sure, why the exact debit and credit does not show. For example it says Tuition Norman UG NR $7638 debit but the Merit Scholarship $7161 credit. So there is a difference of around $450.

I think I may start to not tell people that it is almost a “Full Ride!”

@GoldenRock You should also see a “Flat Rate Adjustment – NR Tui” and one for “Res Tui” that account for the differences listed in the Resident and NR Merit Scholarships.

My son is starting sophomore year and I still see an Academic Excellence Fee for $1147.50 (and it was there both Fall and Spring last year.)

After the $2750 is applied, he will still owe about $1250 for the semester.

One note for new parents. The bill is not due until September 21st so no problem waiting for that $2750.

Happy to inform my work for 1st semester is over (at least for parent, though my D has a long way!) since just sent the final check for 1st semester. Bursar office asked me subtract the $2750 (OK Academic Schoarlship which is not yet posted) and send the remaining. It came to $3745.25 (17 credits). Of course technically the final bill for this semester $3120.25 since my D will be getting $625 for National Merit check later this month. I am happy, at least it helped me now to get a ball park figure for each year. Around $8-10k max I should budget. $6k for OU and $2k for Southwest being OOS and some money for her pocket expense.

On a different note, hope all of you attended the Orientation. I went with my wife and stayed for 3 days. it was fun and we were happy to made the trip since it is our first experience (only child). My D is getting used to the separation. The main compliant is about the walk and finally she went and got a bike today in the OU sale. Unfortunately the only other compliant we have to hear from her till May 2017 is OChem! Other than that she is happy and enjoying. Yes @STEMFamily thanks for the details and understood now. Thanks every one also for your support.

and @GoldenRock she should have also gotten the 2k tech stipend as well.

@oneundecided Yes, she got that (laptop and computer) during the orientation week itself. Thanks.

@GoldenRock or other NMF, will that $625 National Merit Cash Stipend amount be posted to their accounts by September 21st?

@RayznHELL I just checked the scholarship “terms”. Regarding the “National Merit Cash Stipend” it says that “checks will come to our office the third or fourth week of classes each semester. An email will be sent to your OU email account when your check is available”. It would seem like the email should be coming any day now. The amount won’t automatically post to the accounts. The check will need to be picked up in person just as the technology and textbook allowance was.

@WImom94 is correct. Sometime early next week NMF students will receive an e-mail that the check is ready. Then all you have to do is go and sign for it. It’s a very, very quick process.

“National Merit Fall Stipend check is now available in the National Scholars Programs Office. You may pick up your check in the NSP office during regular business hours, 8am – 5pm, M-F. We are located at 550 Parrington Oval, Room 104 in Jacobson Hall/The Visitor Center. Please bring a form of photo identification with you to pick up your check.”

This came in email just ten minutes ago.
