Hi everyone!
Are there any high scorers on the new SAT essay that can give me some tips?
What are some common elements that can be used in the essay (etc. Emotional appeals, statistics, and rhetorical questions)?
Do you have any tips about time managaement?
What is the best way to develop an argument/have a good analysis for this type of essay?
Please share any tips you have in general for the SAT essay/how to study for it. Thanks so much for your help!
Hi, Miranda
As a start you might consider buying a copy of McGraw - Hill’s SAT prep book. I haven’t seen them all, but I think the College Board’s book and many of the other prep books are light on information that will actually help you to write a better essay. The McGraw - Hill book has some detailed info that will give you a clear idea of what the readers are looking for and will give you some technical terminology that can be included in your essay. As I said, it’s a good place to start, particularly if you haven’t already had some training in rhetoric. (You should also still get the College Board’s book just because you will know that the practice tests are like the actual tests)
