Hello here are my stats, i am a rising junior.

GPA: 97 w around 95/96 uw
ACT: 30 for the first time, will retake
Rank: not given
Course load: no APs allowed freshmen or sophomore but took some weighted advanced and the rest honors where applicable. Will graduate with around 7 APs.

Volunteer Work: probably close to 100 hours so far from different places including hospitals (focusing more on that this coming year)

Extra curriculars: bowling team, key club, student government (leadership position junior year), and two school specific clubs. Currently interning at a nonprofit and will also be attending an education camp for a week this summer. Also will most likely be on a leadership board for one of the school specific clubs (don't feel comfortable sharing the name here).

Awards: academic scholarship to my school, 2 service scholarships, freshmen English student award, sophomore chemistry student award,

I want to go pre-med and possibly major in bio-chemistry.

I prefer a small to mid sized school with a strong acceptance into medical school. Also I want to have opportunities to do research and work with professors. Class size should be relatively small ( I understand you can't always avoid that) and I want a more academically motivated school. By that I mean less partying and the majority of kids want to do well/try to do well.

I currently am looking at Case Western, Elon, Furman, as well as in state safeties.

Can anyone help suggest schools for me? They could be match or reach. Thanks!

I have three friends from high school who went to Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL. All three are now doctors, and they claim that this school really prepared them well for the MCAT and med school.

Average ACT score is around a 28. Solid school for pre med and music undergrads. Around 2,000 students on campus.

Take a look at a few liberal arts colleges. They can provide excellent prep and support for pre-meds with small class sizes, close relationships with faculty (for those letters of rec), and a cooperative, supportive student body.

In the south, there’s Davidson, Rhodes, and Hendrix for starters. In Ohio, there’s Kenyon and Oberlin. (I picked Ohio because I’m assuming there is a reason you chose Case Western). If you tell us specifically what part of the country you want to be in, or what other selection criteria you have (urban/suburban/small town? financial need? culture?) we can offer better suggestions.

I’m from Ohio and I’m looking from anywhere from a small town to a major city but I would prefer to have somewhat of a town outside with a convenience store, etc. a hospital near by would be a bonus for volunteering and shadowing.

I will be applying for financial aid but I am unsure of my family’s efc.

look at uab in birmingham al…your current stats will get you 15K merit per year against total cost of attendance of 20-25K… so 5-10 out of pocket

urban campus is surrounded by 7 hospitals (all part of the campus)…overflowing with shadowing opportunities. UAB is the home of a top 10 med school. 11K undergrads

your stats give you a shot at the sci/tech honors program which is all about research, with amazing opportunities and classes all geared to research

average class size is 31 students (although most of my S2’s classes are smaller)

if a chem or bio major also look at the scholar program… paid a stipend per year
(3200.00) selective but your stats are in line for that.

interaction with professors is wonderful…interaction with director of honors program and scholars programs give even better access.
