Help with Speech and Debate?

Hi everyone,

I am a rising sophomore in HS and totally in love with debate. However, I’m not sure whether or not I want to continue with Public Forum debate or switch to Congressional Debate… Here’s my reasoning:

  1. My public forum partner is... slightly weaker and less driven than me... It drives me insane when I have to stay up so late because she's tired and doesn't want to help me cut cards.
  2. I'm extremely driven and motivated, and my goal for high school is to be on the USA Debate team... (Don't laugh! Better to shoot too high than too low)
  3. I love, love, love debate. So both are fun for me, but I want to participate in one that will give me the best opportunities...
  4. I don't want to just drop my partner...
  5. I'm a good team worker but am also very independent as well. Helps with both.
  6. I love doing speeches and using rhetorical techniques like pauses and enunciation and hand motions.
  7. I love speaking in front of people.

For those who suggest me switching to Congressional Debate, how do you suggest that I break it to my partner?

P.S. I have done about 2-3 months of serious Public Forum debate. (I did marching band so it ate up all of my weekends and I couldn’t go to tournaments )-: )

Thank you so much!

bump? (-:

I would simply call for a meeting and explain to him/her your reason for departing. I know it sounds cliche but that’s really it. by the way, I’m also a congressional debater and absolutely love it.
