Hi all,
My d has a student job and has made about 500$ in 2012. she is our dependent in our 2012 taxes. we are required to fill the CSS for financial aid.
i have some questions?

*does she need to file a separate tax return?
*the CSS has a section (copied here)
NO, but I had some earnings from work Complete, and submit in your IDOC packet,
a Student Non-Tax Filer's Statement available on the IDOC website. Be sure to
include all W2 and 1099 forms you received. Continue to Step 4.

If anyone has any experience with CSS and/or a similar situation, please let me know.

thanks, a

This is similar to our situation. My daughters income was too low for her to need to file a return, so she didn’t. For IDOC we are doing the Non Tax Filer’s Statement for her. The profile and FAFSA both ask about student income, so you put the amount there. If she has a W-2 from her $500 earnings, she should send that with the IDOC even though she didn’t file with the IRS.

Thanks @kathieh1.
Just what i was looking for! We will do the same.

What is the deadline for this school? Most schools have sent out financial aid packages already and IDOC deadlines were 2+ weeks ago. It might not matter at this point. I would call the school and find out if it’s too late.
