Submit tax return to CSS or FAFSA?

Sorry, everyone, I am sure this has been dealt with a million times, and I've done some research. However, does a parent's 2013 tax return need to somehow be uploaded and/or U.S. mailed to either CSS or FAFSA? We have submitted it to IDOC as one of our potential schools wanted it by 2/15. I think I need to at least go back "into" the FAFSA form (and CSS??) and put in actual numbers now (given when we first did those they were estimates or based on 2012). Thanks, much.

i think you have to send it to the schools individually. i sent the CSS profiels in January and the FAFSAs recently. is there a way to send the 1040 to CSS and then they send to the schools? I’d like to know

For Profile schools, you only need to send tax documents to IDOC and the colleges access the information there.

You should go back into FAFSA, update as ‘filed’ and either change the numbers or use the retrieval tool if possible. FAFSA does not require that you submit tax documents unless you are requested to do so for verification.

You cannot update the Profile online. You need to contact colleges and ask them how/if they want you to submit corrected numbers.

Thanks, much, entomom. I shall try and use the retrieval tool and do all else you so aptly describe.

Entomom. I’m not sure ALL Profile schools use IDOC. Neither of the schools my kids attended used IDOC. Both were Profile schools. This certainly could have changed. We mailed the tax returns directly to both colleges because that is what they told us to do.

The best thing to do…look on EACH college website. You will find the required submissions, and how to send them, for EACH school. if you are. It certain, call the schools.

^I stand corrected, thanks thumper!

OKay, i don’t feel so bad at being confused by all this, despite the hundreds of hours we’ve spent trying to figure out various college issues the last several months!

Some school would verify your information directly before giving you the final financial aid package.
