Here's the deal-

I am second-year architecture student at Ohio State. I am actually IN Ohio state's school of architecture and take/have taken/plan to take many 200-600 level arch courses. I applyed last year with a 3.1 and was not yet in the school of arch...in retrospect, a waste of time/money. Since I applied last year i have been on the deans list every quarter and have brought my gpa up to a 3.63, along with the increase in the difficulty level of my courses, also I am in NSCS and an honors student. Obviously i am applying to UVa's school of architecture, I am a resident of Virginia, and have fairly unimpressive HS grades(2.8) from a county in Virginia(Fairfax) that does not historically do well at UVa's addmission's office. I am hoping that UVa sees my improvement and dedication to my major....but who knows. Any help would be great, thanks.

Dont know much about Transfers to UVA (Just about first years)

But in 2004 there were 87 ppl that applied and only 7 got accepted to the school of architecture. hope this helps :-)

Ouch, thats selective, hopefully my actually being in a school of arch already will help....where did you find this info?

Haha, that page makes me wish I didn't apply to UVA as an architecture student. My desire to go there is MUUUUCH stronger than my desire to study architecture....im switching majors anyways.

Any UVA arch majors here that could offer any insight to your program??? Ohio state leans more towards the conceptual side of things...i think Virgina does also, but what do i know?

Asbuckeye,

I spoke to my friend who is an A-school grad at UVa. He said the program starts out conceptual/philosophical in the first year, then quickly gets applied for the remaining 3 years.

Any other ???

stumper-
Thank you for that, UVa's curriculum sounds similar to Ohio State's. Could you ask your friend what studio life is like at Virginia? Is it an insane workload, or is it a little bit more laid back? I heard that a couple years back an architecture student at UVA died in a car accident after pulling 2 all-nighters in a row, an event that sparked "StudioCulture" (a nation-wide program dedicated to restructuring the rigorous demands placed on architecture students)

The studio structure is the exact opposite of laid back. They all work insanely hard, spending more time than anywhere (including their bed!). My girlfriend is in the A-school and she only gets between 4-5.5 hours of sleep a night because of all the work.

"...she only gets between 4-5.5 hours of sleep a night because of all the work."

Sounds dreadfully similar to my studio.
