Hi
I am filling out an essay question for "college purposes." The question asks what activities u've done are most meaningful to you and why. I've found my nursing home volunteer very rewarding, so should I write "doing X-thing has been profoundly rewarding for me" or "doing X-thing is great b/c the residents have benefitted." In other words, should I focus more on what "I" have learned or why "I" find it meaningful; i dont want it to sound self-centered! Any suggestions??

Well, the question specifically focuses on how it's helped you. That said, I think they will definitely be thrilled to have you say that it's a symbiotic relationship-- that is, both you and the elderly people you've been working with have been able to help each other. I think focusing on that-- give specifics!-- will make for an amazing essay.

Bring up my post...and thanks, robotab
