Rochester's finance is ranked 14th in the States. However, I have read that it is not a target school for I-Banking. Can anyone shed some light on Rochester's placement into finance? Rochester has a well respected + ranked economics department, on top of a high-ranking finance program, from what I have read, but it's not a target (apparently it does place well into corporate finance).

Will this be a problem/should I be worried? Is it feasible to break into F500 or WStreet I-Banking? I am a rising sophomore with a high GPA, with advanced math and econ courses taken already, and involvement in an investment club + frosh summer research experience. I am networking, and know how to model with Excel.

Thanks in advance.

Why are you worrying about this as a sophomore?

Right now your focus should be to achieve the highest GPA possible and do everything you can to make yourself presentable when the time comes to apply for internships.

It looks like you’re doing a good job already. I’ve heard wonderful things from finance clubs at non-target schools. They seem like the honors college equivalent for students with an interest in IB.

It isn’t hard to get a job at a fortune 500 company but Rochester is not really considered a target for IB. You will have to network like crazy and you will probably not make it to Bulge Bracket

Why are you interested in F500 jobs and IB? They are very different. You may need to learn more about each so that you can focus on what’s better for you and do a good job in explaining why you want a particular job in an interview.
