Ever since I was little I’ve always wanted to be an actor. Theatre has been apart of my life forever and I honestly couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else. I’ve always been interested more in the comedy side of theatre (improv, sketch, character roles) and also the film and television aspect vs strictly stage. I want to pursue theatre in college but I just can’t find the right program. Does anyone have any suggestions? TIME IS TICKING.

It all depends on how talented you are… what experience do you have?
@techtheatrewiz I’ve been involved in theatre ever since elementary school. In my school system we have a program called Talented Theatre (basically you get pulled out of class everyday for an hour for a theatre class) I’ve been involved with that program for over 12 years. Also, I’ve participated in all of my High School Musicals (lead roles). Summer of junior year I did a summer acting program at UCLA
Do you have schools that you are interested in? Are you interested in a particular part of the country?
@toowonderful I’m extremely interested in Emerson! Just don’t think I have the act… I also love Pace, DePaul and Columbia college Chicago
Columbia College Chicago has pretty close connections to Chicago’s improv scene and a degree specifically in comedy. You might also think about CCPA Roosevelt, which has both straight acting and two MT tracks (one with voice emphasis, one with dance). It’s academic requirements are pretty loose, so your ACT score would not be a problem.
Also check out SUNY Purchase, Marymount Manhattan, Point Park, and Ithaca.
@twinkleferret17 you’re right that Emerson would be an excellent fit for your interests. They have a new BFA in Comedic Arts and a minor in comedy. Your ACT is a little low for their middle 50%, but your GPA is good and if your artistic review is strong, you never know.
