I have serious problems with CR. I barely finish before time and I keep getting like 5-6 questions wrong in 1 section! I've posted something like this before and I got really good advice that only raised my score by a few points. I've been advised to break the passage, ie taking 2-3 paragraphs at a time. I've also gotten advice like 'try to make sure your answer is supported by the passage'.
Is there any other thing I'm not doing right? I'm taking my first SAT in January and I'm so scared. I really need to break 700 in my CR.
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

first of all, calm down. you won’t do well on the test if you are nervous or if you think you’re going to do badly. go into the test room with CONFIDENCE in your abilities.

second, (this is a strategy that worked for me), read the passage first, jotting down or underlining any main points. pay attention to key words that give a sense of the author’s tone. then turn to the questions. cover up the answers with you hand as you read the question. once you understand what it is asking, write down a few words or a phrase (that comes from the text) that you think answers the question. THEN look at the answers and try to find one that matches what you wrote down. most of the time, the wrong answers will have a few key words that make them wrong (because there is no evidence for them in the text). often the right answer will agree with what you wrote down and will not make any unsupported, surprising, or radical claims.

if you look at the answers and none of them match what you wrote down, look back at the text for those key words that you underlined.

this strategy saves you time because you are less likely to waste time considering each answer. when you go into the question knowing what you’re looking for, you are more likely to get it right and understand WHY it’s right. if a question completely confuses you, skip it. you can pretty much skip one question in each section and still get an 800. so relax, and don’t agonize over one question for too long.

good luck :)
