$$$$$$!!!! help!!

ok, so my parents are freaking about finanical problems dealing w/ colleges. Does anyone know how much out of pocket will we have to pay for northwestern if the income bracket is 80K to 100K and i am the first child. parents have good credit...i don't know wat else matters..hehe..im not too good w/ finance

i wish i had some better news… im in the same income bracket with a brother also in college. they gave me all loans and no grants!!! my efc is 17k. but aid seems to vary a lot for people so its very possible your result would be better. not looking affordable for me though

My family was in a pretty similar situation…and I ended up getting 15K in grants and 5K in work/study and loans.

so it sounds around 17-20k out of pocket…i wish money grew on trees…that would be nice

Similar situation:
-118K income
-Only child
-VERY small assets (80K home equity and ~0 in savings/checking)

Got 21K in grants + 5K in loans/work

also similar stats…EFC ~30k, 17k in grants, rest covered with loans and work study. But keep in mind that no two family financial situations are the same. They take into consideration savings, real estate, assets, # of kids in college, in addition to income. The best way to find out what they’ll offer is to apply and see what they give you. If it’s still too much money, well then you can always go somewhere else. I’m in a very similar position…my parents are freaking out about how to afford this, but I remain convinced that if there’s a will, there’s a way. Don’t lose hope until you actually see your financial aid.

Similar here too.
Income just barely under 100K, barely anything in the banks, minimal assets
EFC around $10K

only child

26K grant, ~8 loans/work study

20K out of pocket

is there any way to parlay offers from other schools into something at NU? like any negotiation?

@mross5 I was going to ask the same thing. I’m in the 60-80k bracket but recieved NOTHING except for loans and am completely puzzled and dissappointed. I guess my parents have a ton of money saved??? Idk at all. But I got 20k merit a year at American, do you think that would sway them at all?

I’d suggest at least trying it. I emailed the fin aid office but I had other questions, and I didn’t get a clear response about matching. If you can, schedule an appointment on campus, otherwise maybe shoot them an email asking about matching directly.
