Helpful for IU - Kelley Standard Admission Applicants (Got a C- first semester, you still have hope)

ASK ME ANYTHING IN THE COMMENTS.

I never planned on writing one of these posts, but I feel that it could be helpful for IUB students whose chances of getting into Kelley (Standard Admission) may be looking grim. So, hopefully, I can provide some closure.

I was not a great high school student. I had a ~3.0 and sort of just passed by most classes. I did average on my ACT as well, but got into a few respectable schools (IUB being one of them). Once you get to college, it is your time to either continue that route of “just passing by”, or change it. My plan was to change it, but was almost derailed pretty early on.

First semester at IUB, I worked super hard. I wanted to do business, but wasn’t a DA. That’s fine – I told myself – I would just do the standard admission. As you know, you need all solid “B’s” or higher. Without going into the details of my personal life, one exam in Calc I bombed. Very badly. All my other tests were average, but that one was so bad that I ended the class with a high C-. NOT GOOD.

I worked hard, got A’s in nearly every other class (a B or two), and got into Kelley via standard admit. It can be done. Breathe. Ask me any questions you may have.

hey,
i am going to be a freshmen in 10 days and i am a non-DA as well

How did u get into the business school even tho they said you cant have anything lower than a B?

please explain the situation

@DUZK1999 If you don’t get anything lower than a B and a 3.5 overall GPA, you are automatically admitted. If you don’t meet one or both of those criteria, you can still get in, it’s just not automatic.

Hi, currently a freshman at IU trying to get into Kelley. I have two C+'s (K201 and Finite) but all A’s in other classes, and I think I could get all A’s next semester. My overall GPA I am predicting will be a 3.5-3.6. Do you think I have a shot?

I have a friend that applied for Kelley admission this semester (3rd semester on campus) and here are his following grades.

BUS-A 100 B+
ECON-E 201 C+
BUS-C 104 A-
BUS-T 175 B+
BUS-T 275 A
BUS-K 201 A-
BUS-K 303 A-
BUS-C 204 A-
STAT-S 301 B-
BUS-L 201 Transfer Credit
ECON-E 202 Transfer Credit
ENG-W 131 Transfer Credit
MATH-M 118 Transfer Credit
MATH-M 119 Transfer Credit

All other courses that he has taken have been greater than a B+ and GPA is in the 3.58-3.60 range.

I told him that I like his chances but C+ in ECON-E 201 and B- in STAT-S 301 are obviously troublesome. He only has five (5) I-Core courses to take (BUS-A 201, BUS-A 202, BUS-G 202, BUS-D 270, BUS-D 271).

All thoughts are most appreciated!

Two C+'s are a little tough… especially when thats 2 out of your 4 or 5 classes (so 40-50%). You’d have to prove that you can get A’s in tougher classes like those to show them that you can suceed in Kelley.

@OGmudboner your name is a bit troublesome but I respect it. Two below are definitely going to be tricky, but Stats wasn’t that far off. I was in a similar situation with one grade below B and applied at that same time as well (and heard back over xmas break). They will know soon if they got in or not, so it’s just a waiting game and looks like a coin toss to me.

Hi, I am a freshman and non-DA as well. I think I will get C+ in one of the gen-eds but will probably get a B+ or higher in the I core pre-requisites. Do I have a good chance of getting into Kelley?
