helphelphelp--question about grade deflation

<p>soo.... I'm a freshmen at BU and I'm trying to transfer out.
I've been worried ALL year because..at our school each course = 4 credits so I'm only taking 4 classes a semester (which doesn't help) and on top of that, we're well-known for grade deflation........</p>

<p>It's been really hard to keep a stellar GPA (above a A- ave...)
will my colleges know that at all?!!!!!!!? and do they CARE at all....
I tried my best to get a 4.0 for my midterm report this semester but....messed up one exam for a class (I MADE CARELESS exam on my calc exam....which i was LEAST worried about....and no partial credit was given at all so i screwed up.)
anywho..I'm getting off topic...</p>

<p>I also went to a top 10 prep school and it was hard then to keep up a high GPA too :'(
I did end up pulling off like a 3.7 my senior year... << will that help my admissions decision?!
sorry I'm just freaking out...
erm. so my 1st sem. GPA was a 3.43 unfortunately....(i am NOT good with MC exams and psych screwed me up)
ughhughh any words of advice???anyone know anything?</p>

<p>Where are you hoping to transfer?</p>

<p>High school will still count a lot. If BU was the best college you ot into from a T10 prep school, m thinking your high school stats may not help.</p>

<p>I’m really hoping to get into either Georgetown, Cornell ILR or Vanderbilt…
Well…I kind of screwed up my college process (i came up with a list like early December) and because my parents are SOSOSO stubborn – i don’t even get their logic-- my list wasn’t very balanced either.
it was like a bunch of ivies then schools like BU, syracuse, upitts, purdue etc… which i all got into…
ughh… its honestly been so stressful and i’m still not used to four classes…and like only three tests for a class making up your entire final grade…:’(</p>

<p>any extra thoughts?</p>

<p>I think what’s more important here is WHY you are transferring. Transferring because your current school is too stressful is not a good idea – wherever you go, something will be there to challenge you and make you miserable. This is also true for GU, Cornell (the king of ALL schools with grade deflations), and Vanderbilt since they tend to be academically more rigorous than BU. And I know how you feel – my best friend is a second year at BU, who felt just as stressed as you feel now and also wanted to transfer. She is now adjusted and doing very well, and I trust you can do the same if you tried? :)</p>

<p>To answer your original question, I would just say LET THEM KNOW! Haha. When in doubt just mention the grade deflation issue somewhere in your application. Better to tell them than to cross your fingers & hope that the admissions counselors (who will be dealing with hundreds, if not thousands of applications during this season) will somehow know that BU has ridiculous grade deflation.</p>

<p>well yeah i had legitimate reasons…I was hoping to enjoy my time at BU but I am really disliking the overall lack of campus and how it’s so scattered.
also, i just really want to get out of Boston. I was here for high school and I really want a different start to my life. I’m not really here to justify myself…but amongst these i had other personal reasons that made it difficult for me to fully enjoy my time here!
oh stressful definitely isn’t it; i realize that this is what college IS like. three exams making up your grade, your professor not knowing who you are, etc.
I’m saying I’m stressed out because I am not the strongest applicant in terms of numbers/grades (or at least i think…all these transfer applicants have a 3.7+!!!)</p>

<p>hmm. you know I was reluctant to do that…(and the apps were due 3/1)
since I feel like that jst sounds like an excuse. no? I was only wondering if transfer admission counselors are aware of difficulty levels and things like grade deflation :T
A question or two on an exam has really made the difference of getting an A or a B…ughhh</p>

<p>btw, so your friend at BU never ended up applying to transfer?</p>

<p>thanks for you response though!!:)</p>
