Does anyone know much about Hendrix? It sounds like a great school but I have heard there are a fair number of socially awkward students there. My son is a pretty middle of the road kid - not preppy and not hippie, but a good student, soccer player, and musician and I'm wondering if he would feel comfortable there.

Socially awkward to one person is serious or studious or quirky to another. You should go visit and decide for yourselves.

Agree with Lynxinsider, socially awkward or resistant to peer pressure? We visited Hendrix and the impression we had was that students were serious about their studies–not necessarily grades. I think they produce a large percentage of doctors for the state of Arkansas. Something like over 60% of their students go on to grade school. They have some very interesting programs and I believe that they have or are in the process of bringing back football to the campus. Maybe to attract less socially awkward students? Really, you need to go or at least start looking at their publications and websites.

My son (a high school senior) and I visited Hendrix, and we both were VERY impressed. The students are smart and motivated, and it seems to be a place where all types could feel at home - we met jocks, “nerds,” hippies, and plenty “others/middle of the roaders.” All the students we met were friendly. As liberal-leaning Mississippians (oxymoron?), we were pleased to see that Hendrix has plenty of ideological diversity - maybe surprising to folks who wouldn’t expect to find such a progressive place in Arkansas. Little Rock is only 30 minutes away, so students have options when they’re ready to leave campus and Conway. Read about Hendrix in 40 Colleges That Change Lives. My son wound up picking Appalachian State over Hendrix, but I hope my younger daughter will give Hendrix a serious look.

Thanks for the feedback.
