Here is Brown's Admission's Schedule

is it that bad and complicated? terrible!

Oh no! Another week?? I'm so depressed now.
I was so excited for March 31 :( :(

exactly! i had the days counted down in assignment notebook according to the march 31 / april 1 date... :(

and not to be a pessimist (i'm usually laughing and happy), but the increase in applications... they say the the rise in brown's u.s. news ranking is probbaly a variable. so wouldn't it just be the harvard/yale/princeton applicants now applying? not to be stereotypical, though. but would those applicants really enroll if accepted? so shouldn't brown now accept more applicants (hopefully)? anyways, the "agony" continues. i guess i'll still count down on with my old numbers.

Myabe I'll fly out to Providence and try to eavesdrop on the committee...

At least that would be something to do, instead of letting my anxiety take over. :(

Just get a long @$$ stethoscope, mail it to someone in providence and have them place it next to the door.

I wonder if the people in admissions go at it American Idol style and do the Paula/Simon thing.

Zante...lol...don't feel depressed :) The secretary stated that the admissions officers may work every weekend so they can get back on schedule, but who knows...

It is scary when I think about how those few admissions officers have ALL of our lives in their hands :(

yeah really :(

also, smile05, i don't think it means they would admit more applicants, but that a lot more people would be taken off the waiting list as the HYPS admits decide not to go to brown.

god damm man that's some bull ****. waiting another week

ah well, thanks for posting the schedule, this anger isn't directed towards you

neobez...I'm with you on that. Maybe we'll all get lucky and the Adcoms will get "motivated" to have everything completed on time...

I bet you it's those HYPS applicants, who have no intention of attending Brown, that are messing it up for the rest of us by overloading the admissions office...lol...:(

so what is the predicted acceptance rate this year for reg??

It's kind of scary to think that admissions officers are going to be so fed up after reading so many apps and that working harder to get back on schedule for them means reading your app at 2 in the morning .... :(

exactly! i had the days counted down in assignment notebook according to the march 31 / april 1 date...

I did the exact same thing!

Denise Gibbs, one of the executive members of the Admissions Committee told me that Brown's acceptance rate would be around 14-15%, but that they wanted to boost that up to around 17% for this year, if it was possible.

Now, that 17% would count for both the entering class in the fall, transfers, AND students entering in the Spring. 17% of Brown's total applicants would come out to be around 340 additional students admitted this academic year. Now divide that up among the fall entries, transfers and spring entries, and it comes out to be at least an extra 100 students for each group...IF they decide to boost the acceptance rate...

Don't they run the risk of overenrollment then?

Brown wants to expand the number of students that attend, overall. They have already been funded (or approved for funding) for the increase, it's just a matter of "rolling out" the program expansion. Whether they start it this year or not, I'm not sure. They said they are losing too many applicants to HYPS, and that hurts the chances of applicants that have Brown as their #1 choice and didn't get in.

It's like HYPS applicants are using Brown as a backup, just in case they don't get into HYPS. Brown kind of holds an attitude (which is good) of they want students who are passionate about their school (Brown) and who have them (Brown) as their #1 choice. Brown would rather not admit students who have them listed as their "sloppy seconds".

So does that mean they would accept more deferred students rather than regular decision?
