I am a competent student with high SATs (2280 and 790 chem , 800 math), high TOEFL(115) , very good school performance(top 10th in a highly competitive school), 3 prestigious international awards(essay writing, MUN ,scrabble) , and a whole truck load of EC's . Too bored to type my resume again ... its in the chancing forum.
I am a foreign student ( asian indian living in the middle east) .

First question : Are Purdue, Texas A&M ,and University of Illinois public schools? I heard that standford gives restrictive early action ... but I can not apply early to other private schools. I plan to apply to stanford early ( my dream college) , so is it worth that or should I apply early to others? Keep in mind I am a foreign student.

Second question: How many AP tests can you write in a year? I need this to fill out my common application.

Third : Are these colleges a good listing if mechanical engineering is my choice major? I have looked at a general course of M.E and I find that it is heavy on kinematics, laws of motions and thermodynamics related to material sciences, which incidentally are what areas i enjoy most.
