Teacher Recs are very good.
Not going to apply for aid.(if that makes a difference)

maybe you can move to new york and then apply. but since you're probably not going to do that, i guess i would say improve test scores??? (you're international. duh)

yes..the salutatorian of my high school had AMAZING stats and along with those stats came some very interesting and one-of-a-kind E.C.s...1540/1600 SAT I and a bunch of 800 SAT IIs, along with all 5 APs some of which he self-studied. he was rejected from harvard, stanford, mit, oxford..and i forgot what else but he ended up going to berkeley for engineering. the thing is, he went to high school for 3 years in the u.s., as he transfered from cambridge, uk..but was still considered international. he ended up applying to columbia and stanford as a transfer with a 3.9+ GPA his first year at berkeley (which is amazing), and was rejected from stanford yet again. he chose to stay at berkeley because their engineering program is better than columbia's (plus financial aid wasn't too nice).

the valedictorian used to take pills to make him stay awake at nights so he'd constantly study, but his GPA was i believe less than a point higher (my school is on the 100-pt scale), but still higher..so he was ranked 1st. that really shouldn't matter because the difference is so minor and the major differences are the SAT scores. the valedictorian's scores were ALL lower than rank #2...yet he ended up at harvard. why? because he wasn't an international student. he was even asian which didn't make him an underrepresented minority.

so basically..sorry to say..INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS GET SCREWED. but hey...nyu is a different story so good luck.

I was upgraded to permanent resident from international and the Cornell people said it doesn't affect your chances? I am still being judged against the peers in my state?

biggyboy ... the person you are talkin about needed financial aid, and if he was considered international - then the aid could've been a factor. I am not applying for aid. Does that make a difference?

at most colleges
an international student have lower chance of getting in (I would know)
however, at most colleges, if an international student does not need any financial aid, s/he might have good chance of getting in just as anyone else.
It's all about money.. most colleges can't support intl. students.

no wonder so many rich asian kids are at top ivies. (of course they have good stats)

cornell isn't need blind to intenationals. I know that for a fact. They generally accept people and then give them so little aid that they can't attend.
