Hey dudes, what are my chances

So umm, it'll be a miracle if i get in, but what do you guys think?

woops, i accidently submitted it before i finished. i am applying to the mccormick school of engineering. Anyways, here are my stats:

GPA: 3.38 UW, school doesn't weight,
7 aps, 9 honors

SAT: 1390, 710m/680v
SATii: 700 chem, 680 mathiic, 630 writing

EC's:
4 years tennis
3 years tutoring
2 years chess club
founder of ping-pong club
physics club
summer community service

I don't think that would be a miracle. Some girl (see one of the recent threads) got in with 1250 and lower SAT II scores. She is a salutedictorian and has a long list of honors/leadership/ecs however.

Salutedictorian lol

btw, i'm asian and gonna be the first one in my family to go to college, don't know if it'll help or hurt my chances

^ sorry man, we an over-represented minority haha
you should be fine, just make the writing parts interesting

Anyone else?

hey, yeah, im "the girl who got in w/a 1250," and i think u stand a good chance. From what I hear about pple who got in, the essays (long, short, and why u wanna go there) need to be creative, unique, and genuine. And if ur well-rounded that doesnt hurt either, and u seem to have that - sports, community service, and science. However, think of something u did that sets you apart from the thousands of other applicants. If there's no place for it in ur activities section, try to incorporate it into one of ur essays... good luck.

should i take a risk on one of the essays? i'm planning to write something for an essay that will probably get their attention, but it might get me rejected if they don't like it. Should i take this risk? There's a lot of students at my school applying to northwestern with better stats than me. i don't see how i'll get in without leaving a big impression with my essays.

Risk taking is a very personal thing. Some people are by nature more risk aversed than others. But if you can be more specific about what kind of risk it is, some people here may be able to say if it's worth taking.

i want to take a risk on the 'why i want to go to northwestern essay.' i don't know if i should say what i'm gonna write about because if any adcoms are here, they could probably find out it was me who wrote it.

Since northwestern is a reach for you, i'd recommend taking the risk. You will either get in or you won't

i agree, especially if u dont think you'll get in w/out taking the risk... what have u got to lose? But I must say again that I dont think NU is more inclined to accept someone because they have higher test scores. I didn't think I was gonna get in, so I just answered all of the essay questions honestly. If you qualify it as a "risk," then most likely it's a unique and personal topic, which will automatically set you apart from the crowd... Just be careful ;)

thanks guys i think i will take the risk.
