Hey, I got kinda a wierd question about Penn ED

OK, so i know Penn ED is binding single choice meaning you cant apply to any other private Americana college EA/ED and that is accepted ED you must attend Penn. being accepted to Penn ED would be wonderful, for one it has one of the strongest premed/med programs in the ivies and is an all around great school.

BUT dose Penn ED restrictiveness apply when i am applying to international universities (in this case Cambridge,Oxford,Edinburgh where you can get an MD in 6 years) ? basically if I get into Penn ED would I have to withdraw my application from these other schools? its kind of an odd question and I couldn't find anything specific on the Penn website so if anyone has any idea please let me know, thanks.

I’m pretty sure you can still apply early action to other colleges even if you apply early decision to penn. However, I’m not sure if you can apply early decision to non american colleges. My guess is no.

“As noted above, a student may apply Early Decision to only one institution. Accordingly, if an applicant for Early Decision to the University of Pennsylvania also applies for Early Decision to another school, the Early Decision application to the University of Pennsylvania will be withdrawn. Further, if any Regular Decision applicant to the University of Pennsylvania is accepted Early Decision under a College Board approved Early Decision plan by any other school, the application to the University of Pennsylvania will be withdrawn.”

Thanks for the reply but i talked with an admissions officer from Penn and I know for a fact you can’t apply EA/ED to any other private university in the us, they don’t even have a compatible EA/ED policy in the UK so that’s not my question.

My question is if I get in ED to Penn do I have to withdraw my applications for foreign universities I.E. am I bound to Penn OR can I still apply to foreign U’s?

The ED program is BINDING. You are saying that if you get accepted you WILL attend. I don’t think it matters where else you apply, the point is you are telling them if you get in, you will attend, and you will withdraw all other applications should you get in. It is not if you get in to certain schools you will attend but not if you get into others regardless of where they are located.

Of course you can check with admissions, but I think if you are not certain that you would go over all other schools if you get accepted, then you should not be applying ED in the first place.

If you are asking if applying to a non US school is a loophole I don’t think so. But, I don’t work in admissions.

dude you can apply EA to other schools…if you get in penn, just withdraw apps. You can’t apply ED to other schools

kremlin - since you’ve talked to a Penn admin officer before, call them again. Then you will have the for sure answer.

As far as I know, you can break the ED contract to enroll in a foreign school.
