Hey I just met you, and this is crazy, but here are my ECs, so chance me maybe?

Hi, I am an incoming senior at an all-girls parochial school. I live on a tiny island in the Pacific called Guam (yes, it's a US territory). Right, so let's get straight to it: I'm aiming for Columbia, Georgetown, Barnard, NYU, University of Rochester, The King's College.

1) Weighted GPA: 4.52 (out of a 5 scale) Unweighted: 4.0-4.3 (A+ add extra .33, it's weird)

2) SATS: 650 Math 730 Reading 680 Writing (2060 Composite)

3) SAT II: 740 US History; 730 Lit

4) Rank: 7/120 (around there)

5) Classes: Honors in Math, English and History and Biology (Freshman-Sophomore Years). AP World History (4), AP US History (4), AP Language and Comp (5), AP Lit and Comp, AP Government, AP Euro History, AP Calc (all pending)

6) NHS President

7) Close to 200 hrs community service (cumulative) for various orgs

8) Committee Chair, Public Health and Women's Affairs at 28th Guam Youth Congress (3 bills in the works)

9) Cross-Country and Track and Field (3 years, captain for Track, McCauley Awards - like Most Inspirational- all 3 years for both sports)

10) Academic Challenge Bowl Captain (2 years; 4th Place island-wide)

11) MockTrial Captain (2 years; 3rd Place Island-wide, Outstanding Attorney at Asia-Pacific Invitationals)

12) Speaker of the House (Island Leadership Day)

13) NYLC + GYLC Scholar (Commencement Speaker)

14) FEA, Model UN (officer), Green Club - 2 yrs

15) Project: Serve (a new club for off-island trips to do service work in the Philippines)

16) Certified Tobacco Interventionist + over 30 hrs of community research for University of Guam's Cancer Research Center

I would like to pursue a career in Public Health! Please chance me, I'll chance back. I greatly appreciate your time and consideration.

Your scores are near the 25th percentile at Columbia,
quite a bit stronger for Georgetown,
even more for Barnard,
even more for NYU,
and greater as you go. But you already knew that.

Your ECs are great. Make sure you explain them in your app…

Rank is great.

And that’s that. You’re competitive for all your colleges, but if your scores were stronger, you’d have a better shot. You’re below the median in a few is all, but your scores ARE higher than 25% of the people who do end up getting in, so you’ve esentially passed the benchmark.

Get amazing recs and write and amazing essay and you’ll have a fighting chance at even your reach.

Thank you, I will keep that in mind. It was very kind of you to reply, and I appreciate it! :)

I think it’s really great that your ECs are so awesome!!! You really need to write great essays about them because they’re definitely worthy of being showcased :)

Also, I think being from Guam would be an advantage, although you definitely shouldn’t be relying on it!

SAT score’s a little low for columbia and georgetown though. Push your scores up for a way better chance  It’s high enough for the other schools you mentioned, although for NYU if you’re applying to stern then your sat score should be higher  Otherwise your gpa and rank look great so academically you look pretty strong too :D

Goodluck for apps :)

Chance me back btw? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1367587-chance-homeschooler-ill-chance-back.html

Thanks, I’m retaking the SATs in October so fingers crossed it’ll be much better  And sure I’ll chance back

bumpity bumpity bump

Your EC’s and grades are pretty awesome. Your test scores are on the lower side for some of those schools but i think your GPA and ECs make yup for it. Have you considered taking the ACT or retaking the SAT? If you can get that 2060 up to a 2200 or get a 33+ on the ACT, I think your chances will pretty much be solid

I dont know much about the other schools but I do know quite a bit about georgetown. Depending on what your intending on majoring in, Georgetown to me seems pretty good as a match school, unless your applying to the school of foreign service, top of the ****ING nation! But your grading scale is weird so I dont know what to tell you about the grades because mine is on a 4 point scale. I would retake the sat focusing heavily on math, unless you have no intent on a math major then I would focus on writing and CR. Your ranking is pretty good since your right at the 5% mark, but obviously if you had more people it would be better because im 6/about600 which is 1%. But I think your Ecs are awesome and they are very unique. I have never seen or heard of some of the things youve done. Also being NHS Prez is just fantastic in showing your leadership (kinda jealous). SatII are great but I recommend you take 3 because Gtown recommends it. And take a math and science, I recommend Math 1 and Bio M, I didnt study and got great scores :). Other than that fantastic stats. Good luck my friend, georgetown is definitely in reach. ;D

Excellent EC’s thats some unique stuff. Go for the 3rd SAT II georgetown asks for it, think thats already been mentioned. Should be good for all of them compared to friends that have been accepted/rejected ahead of me, but I’ll not pretend to be an expert. If I was in admissions it’d definitely stand out, which seems to be crucial- even above test scores. NYU for sure, know a few with much less that got in from my small school (≈300 in a class). Columbia might be a stretch just from what I’ve heard but just keep the motivation up and write some good essays. Hope if its your top choice we’ll both be Georgetown 2017

Georgetown and Columbia would be match, perhaps reach, while you have a solid chance for everything else except maybe NYU Stern.
