Hi, all --

The St. Albans School of Public Service ("SPS") (St. Albans School) is a 4-week summer program in Washington D.C. for rising seniors, focusing on public policy, law, government, and public service. We are a very small program (35-40 max) with a residential and day program. Several attending students have had to drop out due to unforeseen circumstances, and the folks on our wait list have made other plans; bottom line, a couple of slots have opened up.

Here are some things we will be doing this summer during the program:
--Going to the U.S. Supreme Court and visiting with a sitting U.S. Supreme Court justice;
--Conducting a mock argument of a current Supreme Court case with students as the justices and lawyers;
--Going to a live taping of "Meet the Press;"
--Meeting with U.S. Congressmen and Senators on Capitol Hill;
--Looking at the environmental issue of "fracking," including hosting a visit from the Pulitzer Prize winning New York Times reporter who helped publicize the issue;
--Taking part in "crisis simulations" where the students role play countries on the brink of war and must negotiate (or push the button);
--Meet with a top Obama Administration speechwriter; etc etc etc!

If you think you might be interested, here are a couple of links:
1) Our main website, which contains the hard copy application: St. Albans School
2) Our in-session blog from 2011, which has a lot of day-to-day (even hour to hour) info and lots of photos -- you should very quickly get a sense of whether you'd like SPS or not: www.schoolofpublicservice.blogspot.com

We even have some financial aid still available. We like how small the program is, so we don't have to fill the slots, but if there people out there who would be up for the challenge and are interested, we're interested in hearing from you.

In the meantime, good luck on APs, SATs, and finals!

Sincerely,
