other schools i also intend to apply to:
dream: grinnell, middlebury, vassar, swarthmore
reach: macalester, bard, conncoll, dickinson, gettysburg, kenyon
safety: kalamazoo, hendrix, wittenberg, hampshire

I choose these schools because i've heard these are quite generous in terms of aid to foreign students. I'm most concerned with 2 problems: my low critical reading score and my high financial need.
so what do you think?
thanks:)

Whitman is need blind, meaning they will look at your application without regard to your financial need (although I don’t know if this is true for international students?). Some previously need blind schools are dropping this system (Bowdoin, for one) but I haven’t heard that Whitman is. Your financial aid is determined after you are admitted, although their aid package may not cover your full need. Also, Whitman is really holistic in their approach to admissions. My D’s CR score was similar to yours, but her GPA and EC’s were tops. You seem like a great applicant. Wouldn’t worry.

thanks a lot, Wrist
my another concern is that, i just realized, my profile doesn’t look competitive in terms of leadership and sports/arts… looks like i’m a nerd… i’m afraid this would weaken my application…

Whitman really strives to look at the individual and their interests–not just at test scores or expecting someone to be a whiz at everything. They are interested in how you would benefit from and contribute to the community. Just be who you are and write about why you would particularly value the kind of community that exists at Whitman. Study the website and write to some of the Ask a Student students available on the admissions page. You definitely would be given serious consideration. And you should probably also put Earlham on your list.

thanks mmaah :)
