so I just finished my sophomore yr with so so grades
Freshman - 3.42 GPA
Sophomore - 3.67 GPA</p>
<p>I am wondering if I still have a chance in any top tier schools (like John Hopkins) if I continue a upward slope.
Or are my grades too bad for 9th and 10th?
BTW i am in a highly selective private school if that changes anything and I am taking two AP junior yr - the most my school offers</p>
<p>Plz help guys I'm worried that my grades have ruined my chances!</p>

Band won 2 awards (TPSMEA I think)- sophomore

<p>With only two years of activities, it’s hard to tell. If your grades continue to go up and your classes become harder, then that should make up for freshman year grades. To compensate, you may also want to try taking on leadership roles in your clubs or get a job or internship in the summer. I think with that, you definitely still have a shot at Johns Hopkins, but it may be too late for you at HYPSM schools that have acceptance rates in the single digits. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(</p>
<p>Hey, whateverg. I had nearly identical freshman and sophomore GPA’s. This year, my junior year, I pulled off a 4.0 with 4 AP’s. I knew how critical this year was and how it could either make or break my college app’s. I think that you definitely still have a chance at Johns Hopkins if you can step it up next year…show what you’re capable of. Best of luck to you! :)</p>

<p>They look at them weighted and how your school weights them, and usually they will take your classes and re-weight them according to a different scale created by the admissions office.</p>

<p>Yes, colleges receive some sort of paper explaining and specifying your school’s rigor, grading system, class size, etc.</p>
