I signed up for AP Language and I was wondering if this course is hard. I gets A's(98%) in my gifted Language art classes but that required a ton of studying compared to my math, AP chem, or any other classes.
I struggle with English although I am second in my classes because many people are too lazy.
I was wondering if seniors have taken this course.
Also I am very horrible at the SAT Reading parts (slow reader) and my essay ability is quite poor. Do you thing I should take it?

I am having the same dilemma as you. English is my worst subject even though I still average a 99 in the class. I reccommend you take the course. I am taking AP English Language for the sole purpose of becoming better at English. And getting a better score on the reading portion of the SAT. A higher level English course will be very beneficial to your future courses and in college.

Consistent practice and learning how to read fast are two attributes one gains from taking the class.

You guys will do fine.

@qAnton: I hope so. English is the one subject holding me back. For some reason it just doesn’t come to me like Math and Science do. And thank you!

I can relate; I am a math/science person as well.

However, if you have a semi-decent teacher, just buy CliffsAP, practice multiple choice and study some terms, you’ll be fine on multiple choice.

What you learn in the class is to develop a certain style on how you structure and word each essay you compose.

Remember to read a lot; why develop your own style when you can just base yours off of the masters such as the straightforward Hemingway, the flowery Fitzgerald, the abstract Ellison, even read a few satire essays.

That’s what separates a 3 from a 4 or 5.

I personally played safe and just wrote fully structured essays with little voice. Some students choose to write Satire essays.

Honestly, I would just play safe considering it’s not your strongest.
