Catholic university of America! I got a large merit package from them
It seems with a number of Catholic colleges that there are a few (often 20) full tuition awards and then a sharp drop-off to about $20,000 and under merit awards. (Loyola MD offers up to $27,000, I think, and it’s a great school, especially for business, but pricey, so you are still looking at a price tag in the mid 30’s.)
Kids with fairly modest stats often get nice offers ($15,000-$20,000/yr) from
Catholic colleges. So if a student has high stats but does not get one of the full tuition awards, they can feel slighted when their merit award is “only” a couple of thousand more than that offered to a medium stats kid. But for those of us with average students, the merit offered by schools like Duquesne, Xavier, St. Bonaventure, and Scranton is most welcome.
Providence college offers pretty big awards as well, if you’re going into medicine they have full rides
If you can get your budget to
$30k, Loyola Chicago is a fabulous school.
Once I get my youngest in high school in three years, I’ll start working again (I hope), and then it should not be too hard to raise my limit a bit for the next kids in line. I just want to be cautious about going through too much of our savings with this child and running into trouble with my next two who will need more support…not to mention our retirement…unless someone has a good idea for me to make some extra money while I’m still at home to bridge the gap. I would actually live something to work on a few hours a day to keep me from stressing about college costs and running NPC’s. Lol. $-)
