High GPA, Low SAT: Where to apply?

<p>Hey I am going to be a senior and am starting to apply for colleges. I am not quite sure where I should apply. Maybe you guys can give me some suggestions? </p>

<p>I am interested in Pre-Med/ Biology/ Biochemistry.
Right now I am looking at Penn State University, Pittsburgh University, NYU, BU, and Northeastern.
Still thinking about Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Tufts, UNC, UVA, Georgetown, Brown, and Columbia. The schools I mentioned are pretty hard to get in.</p>

<p>I also don't know if I should apply to those short premed/med programs...</p>

<p>My GPA is very high but I am not good at testing. English is also my second language so the critical reading and writing sections are still very hard for me. </p>

<p>My rank: 11/454
GPA (unweighted): 96.218
GPA (weighted): 98.877
(they are both in the 4 range)</p>

<p>SAT: 1850
SAT: Math 2: 760
I also took Bio and US history, but the scores are low 600's. :'[
ACT: 31</p>

<p>Activities:
-Vice President Class of 2011
-President of Woman's Performance Group - Breast Cancer Awareness, MS walk for Domestic Violence, Amnesty, etc
-Member of Chorale
-Member of Student Council
-Member of National Honor Society
-THeater Company - participated in Plays and Musicals
-100 hours of volunteering at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital - Neurosurgery Department and Emergency Department
-30 hours of Job shadowing - Rehab Doctor and NICU Doctor
-Part-time job at a Restaurant</p>

<p>Classes:
I have taken all honors.
-AP BIO, AP English 11, AP US HIstory
Going to take
-AP CHEM, AP CALC, AP English 12, AP GOV</p>

<p>I also got into a competitive program called Allied Health. Every morning I get to go to a local Hospital for two periods before I go to school. </p>

<p>Any suggestions would be great.

<p>Your ACT is pretty good, not the best, but certainly respectable… SATs could use some work, maybe take them in October and see if you can get at least a 2100. It’s certainly possible… anyway PSU pitt BU and northeastern should be matches imo. NYU might be a very slight reach… for the ivies, definitely more of a reach with the SATs but give it a shot most definitely! PS what’s your first language?</p>

UNC, UVA-kind of iffy, but otherwise alright
Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Tufts, Georgetown, Northeastern, Brown, and Columbia-Sound almost completely unreasonable.</p>

<p>But here’s my recommendation. Start intense SAT prep from today and take the SAT again, at the latest sitting eligible for review by the admissions commissions of the Universities. Then you may open yourself up for the universities that are now out of reach because of your low SAT.</p>

<p>Don’t think UNC will work out if your OOS. </p>

<p>Have you considered test optional schools? More good schools have that option every year…</p>

<p>Definitely use your ACT score. Most likely acceptance at Tufts, Georgetown, and UNC</p>

<p>Here’s why:
Her GPA is great.
She’s in top 3% of her class.
Her ACT score of 31 is 75th percentile of accepted UNC applicants.
Her course load is reasonably rigorous for UNC.</p>

<p>Keep in mind my projection is not meant to be 100% accurate. I am merely providing my opinion based on applicant’s academic records.</p>

<p>Using the 31 and not the SAT, the only schools that are a real stretch are Brown and Columbia, the others the OP is totlly in range for.</p>

<p>Be careful of some of your safety/match schools if you need aid, NYU, BU and Northeastern are not good aid schools.</p>

<p>My first language is Thai.
And yea I am planning to take SAT again in Oct and ACT again in Sept. When I do practice tests at home I get 2000+ everytime, but that doesn’t happen during the real tests. It’s frustrating really. :'[ idk what to do.</p>

<p>And what if my SAT doesn’t increase that much… should i send both ACT and SAT anyways.?</p>
