High GPA (pretty), however low SAT, any chance?

So basically these are my stats:
I'm a korean student studying in an IB school in Indonesia (full IB).
For my grade 11 (second semester) my grades were 38/42 and 40/45
Math HL - 7
ITGS SL- 7
English B HL - 5
Indonesian A HL - 5
Business SL - 6
Physics SL - 6

And for my grade 12 first semester i got 36/42, and 38/45.

My Ec's are :
School body vice president
Basketball Vice captain
Scholarship in Junior Highschool
Credit for Australian Mathematics Competition
Church worship leader
Church youth president
Habitat for humanity
Cashier Work Experience
(i got scholarship in my school too, which i wrote as an EC :P)
and many more

I'm considered top 1-2% of my class (thou my school doesnt rank).

However, my SAT 1 scores are terrible. my highest single sitting is 1870 (700M, 570W, 600CR and 680M, 590CR, 600W ), and 1910 Superscore...

Is 1870 and 1910 superscore too low for UCLA? I really wanna attend this school (for ECON).... help. If there's chance, how big would it be?:s

You make my score of 1590 SAT sound hopeless and horrible. lol :stuck_out_tongue:
IMO, your SAT is just fine. I would be sooooooo happy if I got your score!
Despite my lower than normal SAT and my 24 ACT, I’m still applying to UCLA!
Remember schools look at applicants holistically, if your test scores aren’t up to par, it’s okay because they weigh in your GPA, grades, EC’s, essays, and other circumstances.

thank you. But as i read the previous years’ threads, seems that my sat score is low. Everyone had 1900+ scores, and i dont have sat2s (iknow they are not required, but if you have them, it’s a plus right?)

Yeah SAT II’s are a bit of a plus but they won’t mark down your application if you don’t have them. :)

yea you MIGHT have a chance, but you guys should get at least 2000+ on SAT or around 30 on the ACT to have a strong chance. but this doesn’t mean you guys can’t get in; you can write an excellent essay and still get in!

So can any of you give me a percentage which can best describe my chance? 10?20?25?40? or 50%? haha

no. don’t stress.

any more opinions? bump

Hi fellow Korean!
I’m a Korean student studying in Canada. Lot of Chinese seniors went to UCLA over past 3 years so I think I have a general idea of UCLA admission. Those who went to UCLA among seniors had decent GPA (Mostly As with few Bs) and they had a SAT range of 2000~2100. I don’t mean to depress you, but your SAT is at quiet a low range especially for Asian international students. If it’s any consolation, UC puts more weight in GPA than SAT. Your SAT1 score seems to be in low mid range.
One observation I made was, that Asian internationals have very hard time in U.S admission with mid to low SAT range for the target universities. While I saw some Caucasian internationals accepted with mediocre scores to prestigious universities, I only found few Asian internationals, accepted to universities of such level with SAT less than 75th percentile SAT score (without any hook).

You certainly do have a shot, but don’t be too confident or too pessimistic about it. It seems, (for me at least), UCLA has become easier for internationals matriculation for their abilities to pay full tuition fees. There’s been steadily increasing number of international admissions in my school for past 4 years.

BTW, if you want to comfort yourself with statistical admission chance, I suggest you stick with the official UCLA acceptance rate of 26% because I think your scores are at middle range of the applicant pool. I know how anxious it is to wait without any statistical chance  Last year, a Korean senior from my school got accepted to Princeton with 2370 SAT. But he got rejected from every single other Ivy university. So the ‘chance’ has no use in my opinion.

thankyou so much fellow korean
any more opinions ? do any of you know who ever got into ucla with lower than 1900 sat?:S
