High SAT, but bad SAT?!?!

Hey guys, I got a 2280 SAT single sitting, but my score breakdown worries me.

690CR
800M
790W 10 essay

My CR score is low, but since my composite is sorta high, would this be ok for top 20 colleges? I dont want my CR to bring down my chances...

I would study specifically for the CR and see if you can bring it up. Just because. Why not? Great score btw, that damn CR gets alot of kids doesn’t it?

You should practice more CR and retake it, try to get close to 750 there. That is if it does not take time away from your HS courses and Subject tests and etc.

Unfortunately, many colleges do care about the breakdown. Some colleges care only about the CR+M score, which doesn’t bode well for you. I would suggest retaking.

I would retake. I retook for a similar breakdown (although Math was my lower section). If you study that specific area only, I would be surprised if you didn’t see the improvement you’re looking for.

I was looking through my threads and just found this. I forgot to mention that I’m a senior and that was my last chance to take the sat.

My worries lay in whether my scores are hurting me or helping me. I know it’s too late, but I’m sure this sort of thing probably happens to others, too, so it could be helpful.

@IAmTheGOAT I took the test in both November and January, but only a few of my schools accepted the January test. Luckily, it was my top choices that did. I think it might have been somewhat beneficial to you, but good luck!

@cosmological thank you! It was pretty helpful. I hope you get into your top schools, so good luck
