High SAT, Low-ish GPA

Hey guys

I'm a Junior in high school and I just wanted to know how my scores and grades will affect me getting accepted into more selective schools. I got a 2180 SAT score the first time I took it, and I can most likely raise that score by 100 or so points (I know this sounds optimistic but it's just a projection).

My real problem, however, is GPA. I am in all weighted classes but my weighted GPA will only come out to around 4.3 for this semester. Before Junior year I had a cumulative of 3.71. Will my GPA keep me out of some top schools that would better match my SAT scores? I'm not talking Ivy League here, more like a Virginia or UNC Also, if there was a legitimate outside cause for them being so low this year so far, should I somehow let the university know or let it go?

PS my EC's are good: pres. of TV club, secretary of Junior Classical League, NHS, qualified for NMS, and XC/Track throughout school

If you have a lot of volunteer work, extracurriculars, a rigorous schedule, work experience, and write a good admissions essay when you apply, you should have a good chance! Especially with that SAT score. GPA isn’t everything.
