I have an above average but not insanely high gpa (93 approx UW 97 W) w honors and ap classes, a varsity sport, volunteer work, and multiple leader ship position with an SAT of 1420, will the low gpa keep me out of decent schools? (Not HYSP, but schools like Vanderbilt, UCLA, U of Michigan, etc)
93 GPA sounds higher to me than a 1420 SAT. Am I missing something (not used to the 100 point system). Was your schedule rigorous? Where do you rank in your class? 1420 is not a bad score whatsoever, but not overly impressive to the schools you list. It won’t keep you out, but it won’t get you in either.
Around 25th percentile class rank
GPA and SAT are both low for schools like Vandy and Michigan.
For UCLA, they use the UC GPA calculation for their Unweighted, Capped weighted and Fully weighted GPA.

Are you CA resident or OOS?
Really will depend a lot on the school. AO’s can easily look up and see the grade distributions for your school. Are they handing out all A’s to each kid? Is the rigor or the school a known quality reflected in high standard test scores? What is the school like in other respects.
Honestly, it is much better to attend a rigorous school and have excellent grades and a lower SAT than the reverse. Having ability that doesn’t match performance is a red flag. I don’t think this was always the case. It’s just that now, for the schools you mentioned there are multiple candidates for every spot who have BOTH the grades and the test scores. Why don’t you run one of those apps to see where your match is likely?
