I got a 1410 on my first round of SAT (hoping to raise that later this month), but my GPA will probably end up being around 3.7-3.9 weighted. I also got a 1450 on the PSAT which was good enough to get me Commended but not a semi finalist ( I live in California and would’ve qualified in about 30 states, I know that I can also put that in my aps). I have solid ECs (4 years of varsity basketball, 1 year of varsity football, volunteer experience at non profit on East Coast). What are my chances of getting into schools like Columbia, Northwestern, UCLA, UofChicago, Brown? I should also add that for Brown both my father and grandfather attended so I am a legacy.
Calculate your UC GPA for UCLA?

Intended major? HS course rigor?
Your SAT score is within range but consider it a Reach school especially if your UC GPA is below 4.2.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:
UCB: 12.6%
UCLA: 11.7%
UCSD: 38.7%
UCSB: 53.6%
UCD: 56.5%
UCI: 52.1%
UCSC: 75.7%
UCR: 90.1
UCM: 96.1%
I would target some of the other UC’s for Match and Safety schools.
Many colleges consider GPA the best indicator of performance and weigh it heavily in admission decisions.
Is your GPA rising?. If so, that will be looked upon favorably.
My GPA is certainly rising since my freshman and sophomore years.
My high school course rigor was above average for sure. 2 APs as a sophomore, 5 as a junior including by Calculus, 3 as a Senior (but I do have 0 period and 6th period football training which made it difficult to schedule more APs)
UCLA: Reach based on your posted stats. SAT is below average along with your GPA.
@HPuck35 and if your test scores are too low it may be a red flag that the school or course rigor isnt as strong. Top schools in general still value the test scores equal to grades if not more. Test scores can validate grades.
The most selective schools have the luxury of selecting from an applicant pool that contains far more top-GPA top-test-score applicants than the number they will admit, so that applicants who are deficient in either GPA or test scores will typically find them to be unrealistic reaches.
@ucbalumnus that goes with out saying but top schools is not just 25 schools.A 1410 and a 3.5 plus is pretty good for a lot of excellent schools.
What is your unweighted GPA for each year of high school?
Your stats will definitely get you into many good universities. The trick will be to find some good safeties and matches which you would like to attend and which are affordable. “Columbia, Northwestern, UCLA, UofChicago, Brown” seem unlikely to me, even with legacy status at one of them.
