Hi, I’m from Latin America and want to apply to the US. When checking universities’ requirements, they always have x years of high school courses from many subjects… In my school, we don’t work that way. We all see the same subjects throughout high school. Also, we start studying Physics and Chemistry our 3rd year of high school until we graduate, we study English, Biology and Math all of our high school years, but they don’t have “courses” or classes that you choose, its the same thing for everyone. We see history some high school years, geography on 1st, 3rd and last year of high school, just to give you a sense of how it works.
How would that work out when applying to colleges in the US? Will I have all of my “high school years” on each subject, will I meet all of the requierements? I can’t do anything about if I don’t, so I assume I do…
If you meet the requirements for admission to universities in your own country, you would normally (but not always) meet the requirements for admission to American universities as well. If you are unsure, and the website of the universities you want to apply to don’t offer more insight, you can email the admissions office and ask. Tell them the country you are applying from, the name of the high school credential or track you are pursuing in its original language (such as “A levels” or “high school diploma”) and how many years you were in school by the time you finish high school (usually in the range of 10-13). That should give colleges enough information to tell you how to proceed.
Admission Office’s Emails are always available on the school’s website. Try to reach out to the school you intend to apply. They do have considerations depending on the country you are coming from. Check out if they admit international students so you’d know the requirements.
