High school class of 2008

In my school, the class of '08 is basically hailed as the most brilliant class in years. From rank 2-10, all the GPAs are within 1/100 of each other, leading to some serious competition and grade-obsession, which is kind of pathetic. Our current Valedictorian (cough cough) has a GPA 2/10 above everyone else, though.

I really do think that our class is going to be incredibly competitive. I took the USABO Open exam this year, and the cut-off for Semi-finalist was a score of 32/50. Last year, it was 26/50. That's a huge jump to qualify as the top 10% in the nation. Considering many of those participating are juniors, I'd say this is a pretty rough estimate of how intelligent our class is. Really, all of us picked a terrible year to be born in.

yep..AMC even changed their scoring....

The USABO open exam cut-off was raised to 32 because, frankly, this year's test was a cakewalk compared to last year's. In fact, I'd say a good 5 questions at the very least were repeats from last year's test, so if anyone used that to study (and I'll bet many people did), there would've basically been 5 freebies in store for you.

Granted, I'm not arguing Class of 2008 doesn't have their work cut out for them. Indeed, many officials say the college Class of 2012 will be the most selective one ever, with things settling back down after next year's seniors' plight is over. Just wanted to clear any misconceptions about USABO.
