There’s another guy who was in my class who was a great speller, and it always came down to the two of us when we had our school spelling bee. I won seventh grade, and he won eighth grade, but in the district bee in 7th grade I got out on - wait for it - “eighth.” I was so nervous, and I tend to develop a lisp when I’m nervous, and so when I said the final “h” it sounded like I was done with the word and repeating “eighth.” I beat myself up over it for weeks because I could have won if I’d just taken my time!

You think you got it bad. I misspelled algebra, said the r before the a. I was mortified. None of my friends are ever going to let me live that down.

Last year, I misspelled quizzical. I knew how to spell it, but I forgot the I. I spelled it q-u-i-z-z-c-a-l. Quizzcal. :D

The first spelling bee I ever participated in was in fourth grade on my tenth birthday. I was so nervous I misspelled sausage. Forgot the E. Got out in the first round and the rest of the day was crap.

Hey guys I’m another '16er.
Next year planning on

I go to an extremely prestigious high school and that is the most rigorous course load I can take. What is everyone doing for extracurriculars? I’m planning on hopefully making varsity soccer and jv softball. Also volunteering at a hospital, interning at NIH, club soccer (if it fits in my schedule), classical voice training, maybe an accapella group and some other clubs.

I don’t plan to play any sports because I hate going in the sun. Maybe badminton, though, if it will give me PE credit. Lol, how asian of me. I’ve been volunteering at the library since seventh grade but it’s just superficial stuff. I’m planning on MUN and debate. I didn’t get into student council so I’m not doing that even though it fits my interests. And I may enter some student film festivals.

I’m a 2016er, too. I thought I was the only one on here…

Welcome! How long have you been lurking?

CapreDiem, haha no, there’s a lot of welcoming (rising) freshman on this thread and probably more that just haven’t discovered it! But yeah, it’s nice to have more 16’ers!

In all honesty, did anyone ever get “yelled” at by other high schoolers because you were “too young”? Yeah… that happened to me so much…

But I pretty much went on CollegeConfidential every day through the second semester of 8th grade XD

Um, no. Not particularly… As long as you don’t act all “HAI GUISE!!!111 woddup” I think you’ll be fine.

Fortunately for me, 9th grade is in a totally different building in a totally separate campus about 5 miles away from the main 10-12 high school, so I won’t really have to worry about my fellow upperclassmen.

I’ve gotten yelled at by my older friends! They’re telling me to not even bother with finals (my grades aren’t going to carry over nor do they determine my classes for next year since I’m going to a new district with only honors classes), but I’ve explicitly stated that I’m going to try my best.

They want me to prepare myself by taking the end of the year easy.

Yeah, freshmen at my [future] school are pretty isolated too, though not to the same degree as yours. Basically all classes most freshmen would have are in one building. And freshmen have lunch A and the rest of the students have lunch B.

@ALittleButterfly Lol my older friend who just graduated has been encouraging me.

My sister graduated from high school about two weeks ago and she’s always picking on me for planning for high school and everything so early. She keeps telling me to have low expectations and that the high school isn’t that good, and I know it’s not the best but I think that high school is what you make of it, you know? Like, if you work hard and take rigorous enough courses, I’m hoping it won’t be that bad.

College is what I’m worried about. Go ahead. Laugh. Don’t even get me started on medical school.

At least you’re honest.

In your quest to get into a good school, make sure to make some friends and talk to a female or two on the way there. You can have a life and be successful academically. Just be ready to kiss your sleep goodbye! But sleep is for the weak anyways.

Futurevpfinance, I’m a girl…but yeah, having both social and academic success are important. It’s just the matter of FINDING that perfect balance. On occasion, I fall asleep at 2 am and wake up at 7 no worse for wear, but I dread to see what will happen when it becomes a regular thing. So far in my short life, I have had pride in the fact that I am not addicted to caffeine as some of my compatriots are, but that might have to change.

I’m almost done with The Goblet of Fire now.

If you find yourself losing too much sleep, then start to cut back a little on going out, or take a 90 min nap sometime after school before 8 pm. Avoid the caffeine at all costs. I even knew some ppl who couldn’t make it through the school day without Xanax pills. You don’t wanna have to rely on any of that stuff. I was able to get by high school without any of that stuff. I just hope college doesn’t change that!

I cannot get to sleep and it’s tomorrow already
