I don’t know if I have to read any books over the summer. They haven’t said anything yet, so I’m guessing there is no reading, but maybe they’ll send out a letter or something with a list.

I have to read Anthem over the summer. No biggie, since it’s only ~90 pages. I haven’t bought school supplies yet, but I’ve made a list.

I’ve got a mental list, too. I think I’m going to shop earlier this year. I don’t want to wait last minute because then all of the really cutie patootie stuff will be gone.

I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m going to BS so I’m not sure of what to bring and if it’ll even fit into the room.

I have to read four books. As of now I’m thinking of Fahrenheit 451, Brand New World, Lovely Bones, and The Glass Castle. I don’t know/think I have any other summer homework from my BS.

BS= boarding school NOT bull excrement.

That’s complete BS. Ha, I see what I did there.

^^^Yes, yes I do.

I also see what you did there.

What I hope to do this summer is teach myself algebra two and French 1. Then I will take the finals for those classes, and I will be able to skip them in school! This will allow me to take ap physics b in freshman year instead of physical science.

Will this actually happen? The answer is a definite maybe.

Deerfield16 & andover2016, we will be boarding school buddies next year! (I’m going to a different school than either of you guys though. I’ll give you a hint… Bearcats)

Also deerfield, were those books like chosen from a list? I picked some classes and took tests, but haven’t gotten anything about summer yet…

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using CC

I wish my school would let me test out of subjects. Why…

On a completely unrelated note, even though I have to read and make a report on three books this summer (Lord of the Flies, Trash, and The Chosen), I feel compelled to reread the whole Harry Potter series all over again for the millionth time even though I know I have better stuff to be doing. Blasted human nature.

Hey I’m also planning on re-reading harry potter this summer! I’ve read that series so many times that I’ve probably spent longer reading it than all the other books I’ve read.

I started re-reading it two days ago! Halfway through The Chamber of Secrets, and I still didn’t start studying for my finals… I really need to start planning my time better. sigh

@fascination: Who won the national history bee? I didn’t watch the end…

Rahul Nagvekar, 14, of Sugar Land, Texas, won with the question “What Bavarian city on the Danube River served as the legislative seat of the Holy Roman Empire from 1663 to 1806?”

^Really. I thought is was between Dominic and Tajin. Oh. I just looked him up on google. He won the national geography bee…

@Kathryn: hotchkiss!!! (I applied there. Nice school, reminded me a lot of Deerfield but I really only wanted to go there- DA) Unfortunately we deerfielders have no mascot so GO BIG GREEN!

Yes, three of them were chosen from a list and one was mandatory for all English I students. I picked my classes already (whether I will get the ones I have chosen I do not know) and took my math and French Placement test. Nothing on dorms or anything else interesting.

I’m not naming the kid from my school. Too much information for CC.

Also too much info for CC, but I used to go to the same school the Geography kid attends. Needless to say, he’s a lot bigger of a deal nowadays.

I have a friend in New York who goes to the same school as the kid who was one of the finalists in the National Spelling Bee. He was one of my favorites, too. I felt so bad for him when he got his word wrong.

That must be so embarrassing. Spelling a word wrong on national tv with ALL those people rooting for (or against) you.

Totally. I think it’s worse when the people watching know you. Like the people back home.

I didn’t get to nationals but in sixth and seventh grade I competed with a boy from my district who got to nationals in 2011. I came in second place to him every time for two years. This year he wasn’t eligible to compete but he still felt compelled to show up to all the spelling bees. Imagine my mortification when he and his mom are there to watch me spaz out and lose.

I think AP Psychology would actually be pretty good to study over the summer. It’s a ton of vocabulary, but if you’re dedicated then I’m sure you’ll be able to get a good grasp of the subject. If you can, get a textbook you can actually sit down, read, and most importantly enjoy. Psychology is a really interesting subject, and I’d hate for anyone to miss out on the actual enrichment it can provide by using lackluster study material. I still think the class was a lot of work at my school, but I can’t deny that it was probably the most fulfilling class I’ve taken in high school.
