High school class of 2016

I think some schools have it and some don’t. At our school it doesn’t matter what grade your’e in as long as you meet the age requirement and in my state its 16 (or 17; I’m not sure)

In my state you can start at 14 and 9 months, regardless of grade. You can’t get your license until 16 though, you have to wait.

I’m really excited but kinda nervous!

My dad is just letting me practice in empty parking lots at like 5 mph. Literally, I’m scared to go faster than that. And turning. Turning is horrible, gut-wrenching, sweat inducing stuff, I tell ya.

Haha if I asked my dad to teach me to drive right now he’d laugh in my face. I can get my license at 16, but I basically won’t be driving until I’m 18.

Hey, I’m Krista. I’m a little late compared to you guys, but here’s my tentative schedule-

English I
AP European History
Biology
Geometry
Band
Technical Theater
Women’s Select Choir
Spanish I

Pretty much. My dream college (which will probably change) is Belmont University in Nashville, TN. I want to major in music business or marketing, or major in one minor in the other, I’m not entirely sure. If that fails, I would like to go into music education to become a choral director. I have a passion for music and theater, I am in color guard, and I plan to try out for soccer and basketball which I may or may not get into. I am taking General PE over the summer because, well, I don’t have time for it. Glad to see I have some people to talk with along the way these 4 years. I plan on taking a few AP and honors, but some classes at my school are honors but aren’t weighted, and I don’t want to get into an overly difficult class in a subject in which I’m not overly confident in, and risk my GPA, because I’ve always been told colleges look more at unweighted GPA. When I took the ACT last year in 8th grade I got 21… average. So… hey.

Welcome!

10char

@mdsquared - As a 2015er who was once in your position, the best advice I can give you about driving is to just not be overly panicky. Once you master turning and controlling the car, you should feel comfortable enough to start driving on neighborhood roads. I was scared too, don’t worry.

Welcome Krista! :)

@akacesfan Thanks for the advice! I’ll be sure to keep it in mind.

@krista Welcome to the CC family! Your schedule sounds pretty good. You are very lucky to be able to take an AP as a freshman. My school won’t let us until we’re sophomores.

^Same here. I’m going to be taking AP European History next year. Maybe you can help me out :P

We can get our learner’s permit at 15, license at 16 (with an adult in the car), and we can officially drive by ourselves at 18.

^Is that in your state or just your parents’ personal rules?

Thanks for the welcomes! That is the only AP allowed for freshman at my school. And I can definitely help you guys next year with it if I’m even slightly good at it this year, XD. I was going to get one of those AP self study books and try to learn some material and important events in European History before school starts. :P

So, about driving, I’m kinda nervous too. I’ll probably be one of those drivers that people get annoyed with behind them because they are so slow, going the minimum speed on the highway, etc. XD In my state you have to be like 15 years and 6 or 8 months until you can get your permit to start learning.

EDIT: I mean 14 years and 6 or 8 months XD

@Swinter: I think that’s the rule for our state…

Oh. Okay. Cool. :)

I don’t really know how to respond because the extra periods make me feel like you’re annoyed or think I’m weird.

@Krista - I’ll probably be that kind of driver too. My sister is always hitting poles or getting rear-ended so I’m terrified of following her footsteps, haha. It’s cool that you can take it freshman year, though. I have to wait until the second semester of sophomore year. :P

Definitely. How do you wait until the second semester of sophomore year? Is it still a year-long course at your school?

@Swinter: I am so sorry!! I just like using 3 periods for some reason…see…hehehehehehehe…!!!

Krista - It’s only a semester long.

So guys… What’s the haps? How are your summers going?
