High school class of 2016

I used to have this “year-round” schedule in Elementary school. It means their summer break is shorter, by almost a month. But in turn, they have a two week fall break, winter break and spring break. I loved having this schedule!

I start in 49 days…but who’s counting? I’m excited for something new but worried about the coursework.

This is sort of off-topic and I know people say we’re too young to be thinking about it, but has anyone else started glancing at a few colleges? Or is it just me?

I look at them. Since I’m living on the East Coast for this year, my parents are making me do an early college tour. It’s fun getting a feel for each campus, but I’m still really unsure about what I want in a college. Like if I want a liberal arts college or a big university, or an urban campus or a rural one. I truly don’t really care where I’m at as long as I feel safe! I still don’t know what I want to major in. But isn’t that the purpose of high school? To get a feel for what we want to do? But I’m not that worried, considering how we started this thread even before high school started, we are BOUND to be the best batch of high schoolers colleges are ever going to see.

@kimm: What classes do you have?

I have these colleges in mind: Duke, Dartmouth, Johns Hopkins, Vanderbilt, Harvey Mudd, UNC Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, Davidson, NC State and UGA.

I have:

Honors English I
Honors Algebra I
Honors Biology
Honors World History
Honors Geography
Spanish
PE

Do you think I should take geometry over next summer? I’m still unsure if I want to or not. Of course it’s great to be a bit ahead, but my family usually goes on vacation over the summer so I’d probably have to take a week off.

Right now I have Northwestern as my reach school, and then Illinois State. I want to major in Psychology and I think minor in Womens and Gender Studies. Of course it’s bound to change in high school, though.

Wouldn’t it be stupefying if we could keep this thread going for the next four years? We could live through our high school jitters, summer program applications, AP test cramming, midterm cramming, final exam cramming, staying-up-until-1 writing a paper, college applications… Of course there’s other stuff to high school. Right. Yeah.

But you get my point.

What nate said. I’m not really looking at colleges right now, just focusing on doing well in high school. And I go to a public school in Arizona.

@prepmivi - That would be cool. We should definitely try!

Hehe how stupefying would it be if we got so attached to this thread that we didn’t want to leave it after we’ve graduated? We’d be the class of CCers who refused to leave HSL and move onto college life or, dare I say it, parents cafe.

I just saw this, but really guys? You have not even started high school yet? You should not be worrying about college (which I am assuming at least some of you are since you are on CC). Enjoy freshman year (maybe even sophomore year) then start to worry.

@Swinter We’re going to be discussing our careers, and how our kids are doing and then a bunch of haters are going to be like “MOVE TO THE PARENTS FORUM” and then we’re going to riot and soon the admins (or the people in charge of CC) are going to get all of our accounts suspended, and then we’ll move with the bunch of allies we are bound to have by then to an even better website that will look like an old Facebook.

Or we could stay here, because we’re the best generation of high schoolers and nobody would want us to leave.

Haha, from no one wanting us here in the first place to no one wanting us to leave?

@kimm: Yeah I would recommend taking Geometry over the summer. You can always take it online, which would allow you to take your work with you. Many students on here are often in Algebra 2 as freshman. This makes me feel behind even though I am taking AP Calculus BC as a senior. Everything else looks pretty good, but I would consider doubling up on your Spanish classes next year. That would open up the possibility of taking AP Spanish as junior. Just a thought though…

Yeah Swinter, that’s the plan!

Man… I think I’ve just been guilted into never leaving this thread. XD

Anyways, I don’t think it’s too early to be thinking about college. It’s not like it’s going to be all that’s on my mind or anything, I am just one of those people who like things planned, worry-free. For instance, I know my family doesn’t have the $ to pay for college, and I truly don’t want to go to a community college in my area… I want to get out of my state and experience the entire college experience (IMO) , including dorms and being accross the country. I know that if I want to do this I need to start saving, and be ready to get some sort of scholarship or something, otherwise I shall have fun going to the community college 2 minutes away from the place I currently live. To guarentee a scholarship or some sort of financial aid, I’m trying to look at colleges to see what their admissions GPAs are, what I need on the ACT and SATs, and I’m going to do it. I’m going to take the initiative to do well in high school, well enough to ensure that I can go on further with my education and eventually be in a career that I can be supported in. I’m not big on chances or surprises. Why should I have to worry if I have it all planned out?

There was my mini rant there ^^^. XD I’m not trying to tell anyone off or anything. I just have a plan. XD

You’re the woMAN with the plan. ;)

Too much? lol

@Swinter, hahahaha, sounds about right. XD
That reminds me of a story that I’m going to tell but no one really wants to hear anyway:
In my middle school choir I was one of the only girls who could sing lower than the alto range, so my choir teacher had me and my friend with extremely low voice ranges for girls sing in the tenor/baritone part to help support the guys, some of which me and my friend could sing lower than. So therefore, the class called us the woMEN. XD

Not that you wanted to listen to that or anything… XD

I just about died when @prepmivi said “stupefying”. XD

@KristaKeys That’s exactly how I feel, except I know and have accepted that I’ll be going to a community college for two years after high school. :stuck_out_tongue: I just like having things planned, even if it’s waaay ahead of time.

@nate Thanks. I’d love to take it online but the websites I’ve looked at are expensive so I’d probably have to pay for them myself. I guess we’ll see. And I don’t know about AP Spanish, because it’s really not my best subject. Again though, we’ll see how it is at the end of the school year, I guess. Thanks for the advice!

@KristaKeys haha that’s a pretty funny story. And it doesn’t matter if I didn’t want to hear it 'cause I would’ve read it anyway. My sister walks out of the room when I’m trying to tell a story (I don’t even notice until like two minutes later; she’s stealthy like that) so I know how you feel lol
