High school class of 2016

terrible! i just found out that i may not get credit for my math class!! I was working so hard!! :frowning: SOB!!

typeakid - That reminds me, I have to get to reading To Kill a Mockingbird sometime. Sigh

Bassoonapus - Why not? D:

Apparently there was some procedure I had to follow - I had to talk to my math teacher or something. But my mom had called the guidance counselors and I thought they had worked something out! FLUBBERNUGGETS1!!

^oh gosh that really sucks. If you don’t get credit at least you’ll cruise by in geometry next year.

@typeakid I have 53 days of summer. But I actually do go to a year-round school. My first day is in one week.

@Basoonapus: Is it possible to take a test that gives you credit for the class? (like the CLEP?)

MY SUMMER is

Well, I have 3 summer reading books to finish for English.
A fourth summer reading book for an AP class.
Two summer math assignments to check over/complete
Finish a few online classes
Visit my high school to check over a potential schedule conflict.
Study for my 3 or so AP classes.

My summer is amazing :D

Do you guys get weighted and unweighted means? I think weighted means something with AP classes? but im not sure.~

lucky! you get aps as a freshie. :frowning:
Also, here’s the whole story of my geometry stuff:
Near the end of the school year, but not to close to the end, I had to go to the guidance counselor, I think to talk about course selections, I dunno, but when we were done I asked her if I could do geometry over the summer. She basically said I shouldn’t because the kids who usually do that have teacher’s as parents. Well I didn’t take no for an answer and I begged my mom to do something (she has more power than a middle schooler). So she called the high school, and after playing an annoying game of phone tag, she finally reached them and talked to the math people and stuff and she told me that I could do my math course and then I would take a test to see if I could pass it. Awesome.
A few months and 300 bucks later, I email the math curriculum leader asking to schedule the final exam. She emails back and says (basically) “that’s awesome that you are interested in math but I don’t have any information about you taking this course so tuff beens mister” and I was like
WHAT
NO
So then I talked to my mom and she is going to email her. Also she said that those guidance counselors apparently didn’t give her enough information.
So I’m pretty po’d at my high school. Terrible communication.
It’s as if they don’t want students to learn. Especially ‘gifted’ students - it took my mom a lot of work to get me an iq test. Also the gifted program stinks. Since I came to this district in 5th grade, I wasn’t put into the ‘mentally gifted’ or ‘advanced math’ programs. The elitist kids would bully ‘stupider’ kids. GOD I HATE MY SCHOOL

@OtLcat It’s my understanding that if you take an AP/IB/honors class then your GPA will be weighted. For example, an A in an AP class would give you 5 gradepoints rather than 4. It’s to ensure that kids who cruise by in regular classes don’t end up with a higher GPA then kids in AP/IB/honors.

@Bassoonapus that blows. what are you gonna do about it? they should let you take the exam anyway. What do they have to lose? If you fail, then okay, it’s on you. If you don’t, then yay for you.

I guess I’ll just have to see how it works out. However, in my experience, exceptions are often made for parents who whine and complain enough.
Thanks for reading and supporting me. Nice people make me happy.

Basoonapus that really sucks! Hopefully you can take the exam. It will take like an hour of their time and it’s not like they have anything to lose

@Bassoonapus Aah, that’s terrible! I agree, though - if you complain enough, they might give in eventually. :P

Ah, freshman year. I feel as if it began a month ago. But here I am, two years later, wishing I’d invested more time into academics and sports than in wasting my time trying to have a great social life. Don’t do that, freshmen. It’s practically impossible this early to realize, but then again since most of you are only on here because you’re overachievers, you probably do. Don’t worry about a social life, a decent one will come to you if you’re a sane person. Don’t worry about boyfriends or girlfriends; they’re simply a waste of time and energy at this point in your life. Freshman year is honestly both a beautiful and disgusting time in a person’s life, but the pressure, responsibility, and scrutiny are at their lowest point. Don’t try to create an image of yourself. Just do what feels right. Half of it has gone by and most of me is glad it did, but part of me wishes I could do it all over again, and I wouldn’t change a lot. But no, it’s not going to be the best four years of your life. Far from it, in fact.

Thank you for those words of wisdom. I’m sure all I us will try our best to abide by them. I won’t have a social life either way, so it’s fine.

@Basoonapus good luck! Like others have said, if parents complain enough. I’ve seen it happen in the case of dance team try outs. The daughter o the PTO president obviously wasn’t good enough to make it on the team, but her mother complained for weeks. They eventually let her on, but the other kids were furious. Gosh darn politics.

Anyways, when do you guys start school? My first day is August 8th. AHHH so early!!!

Thats early, we dont start till the day after labor day. September 5th.

First day is August 13th. Orientation is the 9th or so.

My first day is July 23. I’m getting my schedule today.

So I got my schedule and ID today. I only have one class with my friends who have been in ALL of my classes since sixth grade. And my ID picture is so ugly. I look like a demon child. The good thing is they used a point-and-shoot and my face is blurred.

I start school the 3rd but actual classes begin the 7th I think. I don’t know when I will get my schedule, I want it now!

Haha I know how that feels. I was just anxious to know when my classes are. Luckily, the classes I’ll likely have the most homework in are after lunch! Lol.

Me and my algebra 2 teacher have the same last name so everyone’s asking if she’s my mom
Haha

My first day is August 20th, and I get my schedule and ID and everything on the 8th. I’m sure mine will look horrible, too. :P
