My first day of high school is tomorrow, guys! Wish me luck!

@Prepmivi, have no fear…you’re not the line theatre geek! I’m one too!

@Swinter, good luck on your first day tomorrow!

@Swinter Good luck! Don’t let the upperclassmen bite!

Good luck, Swinter! :)

So I just got home and I decided to log on and tell you guys about my day. This whole week we’re on block schedule so today I only had French, English, and biology. My French teacher is sooo cool. She’s funny, casual, really nice, etc. I’m in French 1, but she said since I’m an MYP/IB student, if she sees I’m doing really well by the end of the semester she’ll bump me up to French 2 or even honors French 3! Even though I didn’t know anyone, the kids in that class are really funny and I can tell it’ll be a fun time. I dislike the kids in English and biology classes, though. In my English class I have absolutely no friends and basically all of the kids look like they’ve been homeschooled K-8. (Not that that’s the reason why they’re kinda weird) The ones who don’t were the popular kids from middle school who think they’re smart because they’re in honors English. Plus it’s a fairly large class. All of my classes are, actually. In junior high all my classes were 18 kids exactly. Now basically all my classes are 30+. My biology class has a really peppy teacher who scolds you for not following her strict rules in a really peppy voice. I don’t know what to make of her yet. Oh, and the popular girls sit right behind me and I have no friends either. Other than that, today was a nice first day of high school. I packed lunch so I wasn’t part of the 350+ kids who stood in line the entire time and couldn’t buy anything to eat. When I asked an older girl where the stairs were she didn’t lead me the wrong way. All in all, it could’ve been worse. Tomorrow I have math, history, and TV production. Hopefully the kids in those classes will be better.

^Cool. Sounds like you had a pretty fair day!!! I don’t know what my first day is going to be like. That’s okay. People don’t realize what a cool person you are!!

Thanks. It kinda sucks because when I was in junior high every single one of my classes had the exact same 18 people. (the gifted program was really small) And those 18 people were also all in my sixth grade class. Now all of us are split up and none of them were in any of my classes today.

I hope my first day is fun. I’m really just nervous about meeting new people (not that I’m antisocial) but our highschool combines 2 middle schools, so that about 200 people in the freshman class. Well I know most of the people and my classes are pretty fair

^I’m sure you’ll have some classes with at least one of them. A part of me feels as though the school splits kids up from the same school on purpose so that they can mingle with other kids from other schools. I’m not sure if that’s true. I really want to get my schedule!!! I want to know if I got the elective I wanted!

I don’t think my school does it on purpose, splitting up the kids. There are just so many freshmen. My class has… 763 i believe? And i hope you get the elective of your choice too!

Swinter, that’s alot of kids, I think that’s more than the whole school combined.

Yeah, I go to a pretty big school. Population wise. My class is actually smaller than the incoming freshman class in past years.

Does anyone know what clubs/sports they are going to do next year or throughout high school?

I do! I hope to be on varsity basketball freshman year. My school requires that we play a sport every term, so im gonna also try soccer and possibly continue with track. In addition, I want to run for student government, debate, write for the school newspaper, be a member of af-lat-am(the Afro Latino society) and also write for the yearbook. I also plan to be apart of a community service related club, but I don’t know which one yet. Anyone else know what they want to do?

I want to do as many clubs/stuff as possible - I know that colleges don’t want to see people spread themselves thin with too many activites, but there are so many fun things to do! I want to do debate (if my school even has a team!), marching band, jazz band, community bands, a local wind symphony for adults (but I play bassoon and they need another bassoonist), a youth orchestra that’s like an hour away (that ride’s not gonna be fun but it’s worth it for the experience!), pit orchestra (maybe, because I heard that they don’t have a full one every year, sometimes just like guitars and piano, no woodwinds, but I hope the score calls for them!), and theatre if I have time! The great thing about the plays my school puts on is that few guys try out, so almost every one gets in (last year they needed thirty, but only 29 tried out!)!

I want to do a lot more, but oh well
Although if there’s a science club, I would probably join that too (I recently discovered how AWESOME science is!).

Don’t wear yourself out! That seems like a lot of activities that will eventually interfere with your academics! I will only be doing three or four activities this year to be able to focus ample time on my academics.

Awwww
BUT I WANNA!!
I guess I could drop the community band and theatre, as well as the science and maybe debate. :(:(:(:(:(

I ran for student council but didn’t get in. I was really sad at the time but in hindsight it was for the best because at my school student council is an actual class and that would’ve been a waste of time no matter how fun it is. I plan on joining the debate team, model UN, writing for the school newspaper (we have one, but I’m not sure how active it is), and maybe trying to enter a film festival outside of school.

It would also depend on how many honors classes you are taking. I will be taking 5 so I will need time for them. But if you are taking 1 or none, you would have more time to do it and you could still keep your grades up. :)

I’m taking 5 too
Oh well, at least I can’t take any aps this year! but next year and the following yEARS * i will have to cut down on my EXTra cuRNGclarts*
