High School Class of 2017

So like for some reason my schedule says AP PL Human Geography instead of AP European History but I guess I don’t mind. Went to orientation today, it wasn’t that fun due to being separated from friends and sorted through last name.

Class Schedule

 1. Bio I - PRE IB
 2. ENG I - PRE IB
 3. ADV PL HUMAN GEOG
 4. FRENCH I - PRE IB
 5. ALG 2 HON
 6. Comp Thea 3 - PRE IB

Pretty bummed about it. Then again, I heard that they were going to change it. =/. Can’t wait to go to school, this Tuesday! Now if only I can meet KPOP fans near me. 3:

Oh wow, that is a serious course load :O.

Have you taken any AP classes before?

Oops, didn’t read this page.

Disregard that last post^ :)

Does anyone have AP Government this year? I’m seriously freaked out about this class. Only one soph. I know got an A! I’m studying from the textbook before school starts, but I’m afraid I won’t do well.

I did take Honors Chem last year… I’m just worried about being thrown into calc with no experience at all. I can always do AP human geo instead of AP world history but that might throw around my schedule.

PS: there’s another freshman at my school doing Calc and my counselor wants him/her to have company, so hence my predicament. I’m more of an English type.

Oh and I forgot AP chinese- I’m taking it online.

SG if you aren’t a math person and you feel don’t feel confident, do not take AB freshman year. If you take it and do poorly, it will not help at all when it comes to colleges. It would be better to take it in 10th grade with a solid foundation in pre-calc and ace the class. You will still be far ahead anyways. If you do take AB, I would suggest you take human geo and take world history in 10th grade. Chem and AB will be a handful as it is.

Remember that its more about balance and gradually increasing AP classes over the years.

Has anyone taken French I? I’m trying to find a specific brand of dictionary but I’m not sure. Ehm. I’m not even sure if I’m suppose to get thesaurus or dictionary because I was like rushing out of orientation. Does anyone know any specific brands that I should look out for?

^ imo you shouldnt worry about world language classes. IME a large percentage of every language class fail at the language, so the grades are seriously inflated, allowing you to reap the benefits.

I think it depends on your school. In my language class, only one person got an A on the final. With grade inflation.

Is it really important to do a sport in school? I want to do theater but that means I can’t do soccer…I can’t decide  and ya im gonna be a freshman this year :)

What’s important is doing what interests you! ^

First day of high school tomorrow :I :I :I

@yakisoba good luck  make sure to tell us how it goes.

I have the first day of volleyball tryouts tomorrow, I’m super nervous!

Good luck everyone! Wow you all start early! I don’t begin school until September 4!

I don’t start for another two weeks but good luck!

@loveyoutoo I start the same day as you :D

Volleyball trouts were fun today!

Do you guys have uniforms at your schools?

^ I don’t! I am very happy that my school is uniform- free

Does your school?

@Kysanx: I have been in a French immersion program since I was in first grade, so I have had to use a fair share of dictionaries over the years. Here are my recommendations:
-For a French-English dictionary, I have always used Merriam-Webster’s French-English Dictionary. It’s simple and will be adequate for an introductory French class, but you might need to purchase a different one for more advanced classes.
-Larousse is a trusted French dictionary brand. I do not own one of their dictionaries myself, but many of my teachers did.
-I like to use WordReference as an online source. You can look up translations, as well as conjugations and definitions. This resource is more complex and offers translations to myriad expressions. If you can’t find what you are looking for, you can ask your question by creating a thread. The website is wordreference.com. You could also download the free app.
-Lastly, never use Google Translate! It is a horrible tool, and if you use it, your teacher will see right through you. A boy in my class used it for a project, and he was found guilty of plagiarism!

Hey, freshman. Rising junior here.
I know most of you have probably made all your decisions about EC’s, sports, and music already, but of I would live to offer you some advice! If there is ANYTHING at all that you are interested in (sports, music, speech, etc) I would suggest that you join NOW! It will be the easiest your freshman year and if you end up not liking it, you can always drop it sophomore year! If there’s one thing I regret about high school so far it isn’t my academic choices but rather my extracurricular activities. I did have the opportunity to play both tennis and lacrosse this year but I was already too far behind most of my classmates so I had to play at the lowest level. I also would have liked to play on the orchestra but I had absolutely no experience and the only beginning music class is offered solely for freshmen. So in short, take up anything that interests you. By sophomore year you will probably be able to decide what you’re more passionate about and drop a few activities to make time for school. Anyway, good luck in high school this year!
