High School Class of 2017

You’re not the only person I’ve talked to who has had a complete (not a nice person) for that class… Interesting coincidences

I was told by my POE teacher that by the end of the course, we’d all know whether we’d want to go into engineering or not. What was the case for you?

I think he kind of assumed everyone was interested in engineering (although I am, I’m more interested in the hard sciences like physics–specifically astrophysics) in the class. Since I didn’t take POE, I don’t know about the POE teacher; I met him later in the year (I’d spend the first few minutes of sixth period in that class, since I had PE and it really didn’t matter how late you were, since you already had changing time).

I’m very proud of the way I explained element reactivity to my friend, who had forgotten the rules:
(based on valence electrons; only for groups 1, 2, and 13-18)
1 or 7: bang bang
2 or 6: small bang
3 or 5: bang sometimes
4: no bang

According to College Board, one of the two universities that would be a good fit for me is Stanford.

Well thanks for rubbing it in my face, I think I already knew that. I’d like something that, you know, isn’t impossible to get into (the other one, I believe, was USC, which doesn’t even have very good programs in anything I’d like to major in).

Bang bang all over you.

@topaz1116‌ According to College Board, Harvard, MIT and Yale are 100% matches…

I took a practice once and got a 180 then again with a 220.

I took a PSAT practice test and got 203 before studying. So I was happy and thought I might reach a 220 with studying. So I studied and I got a 206. My studying isn’t working.

Now I’m certain I’ll get below a 200. >.<

I’ll play quiz-up word definitions on the bus

I should probably take a practice test soon…

I’ll do it tomorrow. I’m too busy today.

My lower arm was hurting because of guard, so I just put some Icy-Hot on it… Apparently it was too much, because now my arm hurts more than it did before (albeit in a stinging way now instead of a sore way).

@topaz1116 I’m going to have to take mine tonight since my test is tomorrow. I really don’t feel motivated to study because I’m not a junior yet, but I’m trying to tell myself that whatever I do today will help me when I take the test next year.

@tacoperson123 Wait a minute! Let me take you there!

I ended up not taking the whole practice test but just working on the vocabulary and math problems. I actually forgot some concepts from Geometry, but I’ll study them tomorrow morning. I also noticed that a lot of the vocabulary questions I got wrong were the ones where I didn’t follow my first instinct, so I guess it’s better for me tomorrow to trust my first guess rather than doubt myself. :-S

@Greninja‌ How did you do?

Guys don’t worry the test is soo easy. Most of the vocab is like 7th grade stuff. I hope it’s like this next year when it matters!!

It was pretty easy, besides a few math questions. I actually didn’t get to one of the Section 3 math questions in time, though, and two of the Writing Skills questions.

@ThatOneWeirdGuy‌ What kind of question were difficult?

Were there any weird vocab words like on the SATs

@livelaugh7‌

Keep in mind they were difficult for ME. I think your guys are more intelligent than me tbh, but here are some of the math questions that were hard for me or took some time to solve:

A hexagon on a coordinate system - regular, 4 unit sides, here’s a point, now find whatever the point on the other side of the hexagon is. Oh, and the hexagon isn’t touching the y-axis.

One involved absolute value equations. Abs(a-b) = (a specified integer), abs(b-c) = (a specified integer), now what are all the possibilities for abs(a-c).

Another one was just a story problem with a linear equation in standard form (ax+by=c), but it took too long to solve for me to find the answer for sure. It basically gave you two equations in that form and said solve for y. The coefficient for the x was the same in both, and the ratio of the coefficients for the y’s were 2:1, so I hastily took the difference of the c’s, divided them by 2, and said that was y, which made no sense whatsoever, but I didn’t want to spend too much time on it by doing the algebra.

That’s all I can recall atm. I thought the writing and reading were easy.

Vocab words were not difficult from what recall. I guess there were some weird ones, but I either knew them, or figured them out through elimination of other choices.

@ThatOneWeirdGuy‌ Those seem oddly difficult. But it would probably make more sense with actual numbers and pictures. And its good that they are multiple choice. Just put the answers in and see if they work.

Vocab is my weak spot though.

Vocab is definitely my weak spot as well.

Not all of the math is multiple choice. In the second math section, more than half of them are where you have to “write” the answer by filling in bubbles with numbers. That’s why it takes so much time; there’s nothing to just plug in and check.

Yeah, everybody worries about vocab and grammar; not sure why. Especially vocab. With vocab, you can verify or eliminate any that you know that are given as options. It helps if you read a lot, both with vocab and grammar.

My weak spot is sadly math. If given a greater amount of time, I could get every single correct answer, but speed is my problem. I think too much.
