I go to a five year high school as a senior, and I have a question about high school classes. I'm debating on whether to take a second year of Physics or a history class. I'd rather do the history class, but I think Physics might look better on my application. I've also taken 4 years of science, not including a Bio this year. But I'm also asking the history teacher to do a rec for me. Thanks
If it helps, I'm applying as a bio major.

history.
neither will "look better" history is a core class and you will enjoy it more.

What do you mean a 5 year high school? Are you in 13th grade or does your high school start in 8th grade?

It starts at 8th grade. The 8th grade courses don't count though.

weird... I didn't know that those existed

Most competitive colleges expect students to take atleast one history and one science every year. On top of that they like to see students who have taken physics as one of their sciences, however if you love history and plan to major in social studies you should take that.

history? really? I'm not taking history this year... (well!! too bad!)

anyway, OP, just take what you would enjoy more. I don't think it will really matter either way and this way you will enjoy your life that much more

Amen to that.

If you have taken the bio chem physics sequence, I would not recommend taking another year of physics unless it is an AP course. Otherwise take the history class

Agree with sybbie about not taking physics unless it is of advanced level. Since the OP has already taken history, he should not feel compelled to take history. I don't believe that one must take history every year to be competitive. (I know that international students who don't take history in the last TWO years of high school - in 11th and 12th - get admitted to top schools like MIT. They take history in 9th and 10th, though.)

I think language, math and science are required every year at most of the high schools.

I think 3 years of social sciences is a pretty standard requirement, but I can't say anything about internationals.
