High School Courses

I really want to major in veterinarian medicine! But I am only a high school sophomore, so I was thinking that I should already get started in choosing classes.
So what classes can help me with pursue my dream career? Please include regular classes and AP classes! Thank you~

It all depends on what level you feel comfortable taking the classes at. Take as many math and science courses as you can. You definitely want to take Biology, Chemistry, and Calculus. I would also suggest Physics and Statistics. Taking these at the AP level would probably be your best option but if you don’t want to take all of these at that level then that shouldn’t be a problem. You also want to have good writing skills so taking AP Lang and AP Lit would be beneficial.

As deTurmaned said,Definitely take any and all science courses available to you. If you go the AP route with the intention of testing out for college credit be aware that not all veterinary schools honor AP courses. You mainly want to get a strong science and math background now to prepare you for college level courses in the same.

This is also a good time to begin building your resume with animal related volunteer and work experience. The more documented hours, the better. Volunteer at a local shelter or see if you can find a part time job in a vet clinic. Many clinics hire high schoolers as kennel techs.

I also recommend that you begin researching vet school requirements. the American veterinary medical association has an informational we site at avma.org where you’ll find a list of accredited veterinary colleges and links to their web sites. Start checking out the required classes for applicants so you can plan your college course load. It will be here before you know it :)

Good luck
