what courses should i take in high school?

What courses in high school should I take in order to become a vet?

Probably most of the sciences courses, especially the AP science courses. You should definitely take AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and Genetics(if your school offers it).

Hey, I’m also a high school student (junior in September), and I’m aspiring to be a vet too. I took a zoology course as an elective last year for one term, and am taking AP Bio next year. I’ve been taking research science courses (sort of like honors; it’s more advanced and in-depth than your normal science course) for the past two years, and will be taking honors physics next year too.

From what I’ve seen and read, you should have at least one course in computer science (this was mandated as a course for my school), four years of sciences (particularly chemistry and biology, so take a few more electives for those two), and you should do well in your math courses. So maybe take some electives that involve math, if you’re good at it?

Hope that helps some, :).

Oh, and more importantly-- you have to do extremely well in school. It’s not just a matter of which courses you take; you have to get incredible grades as well.

thank you for your in-depth reply hawkdancer. I am a rising junior too. I plan on taking AP Calc AB, AP Chem, physics, and comp. science this year. I am taking zoology, AP bio, AP Physics, and possibly ap environmental science year

Given that vet school is after you get your undergrad degree, how important is your HS curriculum/grades for vet school admission?
