High School deaths

Two people at my school committed suicide this year. They were both freshmen and I didn’t know them. The school didn’t really do anything to publicly mourn, except have the teachers talk about it. I think they’re trying to make as little of a deal of this as possible, because attention might encourage more suicides.

I don’t know of any students that have died at my school and I hope that stays the same. There are many staff and relatives that pass away of natural causes, but I suppose the same is true for every school.

That’s awesome. I should feel bad because he died, but that makes me laugh for some reason.

There was a U.S. Marine who died in 2005 I think who graduated from our school. We have a few plaques honoring him and an official shirt with his football number (which is now retired).

Just this passing year we had a freshman die during football practice and a senior die (and only a few weeks before graduation, too) in a car crash that wasn’t his fault. We brought in the freshman’s family and presented them with a few “keepsakes” (for lack of a better word). We also all wore nice, formal, black clothes the next day. The senior’s death was a bit more under-the-radar, though.

Also, in 8th grade, my 6th grade science teacher, who was an awesome guy and an awesome teacher, committed suicide by carbon dioxide poisoning. He had a wife and kids, but suffered from clinical depression I believe. The next day the entire school merely mourned.

We have had a few other deaths in the past few years, but I don’t remember what the school did to cope.

A teacher died at school when I was in 10th grade. He had a heart attack, fell, and hit his head on the corner of a table. A student found him.

A football star had a cardiac arrest during a football practice and died after being driven to the hospital. Our team retired a his number and hang his jersey in the trophy case.

^^ That’s terrible, especially the fact that a student found him dead.

Nobody at my school has died in the years I’ve been attending the school, but there have been that one time each year where teenagers from other schools in the city have. This year it was two sisters at another private school, who I think were friends with (particularly the older girl) some students at my school. Their story is so tragic, they committed suicide, but really it is way more complex than it sounds here.

I saw a 18 year old Columbian kid, who use to go to my school, kill two 16 year Mexican kids in the back parking lot of a small store in my town. They were both shot execution style. That is something you never forget, but evetually become accustomed to when you live in the hood.
