high school freshmen average issuse

Okay. i've been pondering about this for a long time. I'm only going to list out my unweighted average and calculate them and let you guys see what I'm thinking right now.

Geometry: 95
Global H. I: 95
Spanish I: 94
English: 92
Biology: 91

These courses all consist of my unweighted average (93.4). The college board's conversion chart seems like quitox! a 93 is equivalent to an A and a 4 on the 4.0 scale! i thought that a 95+ was a solid 4. So does that mean that my spanish is also a 4? or is it merely a 3.7, (A-).
I know the gpa conversions differ, but i want one that most competitive colleges use.

After calcualting on the 4.0 scale, using collegeboard's conversion chart, my freshmen average is a 3.88. Now a 3.88 doesn't seem to correlate with my 93.4 overall. This is the confusing part. How is a 93.4 a 3.88? I think college board's gpa conversion chart is flawed despite the fact that my three 4's gave me a huge boost.

please, any ideas and comments on this issue? I can't seem to get the ambiguities cleared up, since there isn't much info about this. any replys are appreciated.

At most schools, an A range is around 93 or 94 to 100.

GPA is calculated by converting letter grade to a grade point value, then averaging them. You don’t average your scores before converting to letter grade.

CB is correct; your grades would be

Geometry: 95 = A = 4.0
Global H. I: 95 = A = 4.0
Spanish I: 94 = A = 4.0
English: 92 = A- = 3.7
Biology: 91 = A- = 3.7

GPA = 19.4 / 5 = 3.88

ohh thanks pancaked. but it juset still seems so weird that a 3.88= 93.4. most people would expect a 3.88 to equal 95% average or more

@pancaked, do colleges also use the percent grades? or do most of them calculate grades in their own way like on the 4.0 scale?

Every college is different. Some will calculate your GPA using their scales. Some will eliminate some of your non-important classes and calculate GPA. Some won’t calculate it at all and just accept your percentages.

ohh i see. ok. but does nyu or cornell in particular, re-calculate student averages according to their scale?

^^ Most colleges recalculate your GPA. See: http://www.possibilityu.com/how-calculate-your-“real”-high-school-gpa
