High School Internship

I am a rising junior in high school. I have been interning at a non-profit this summer. I would like to know what documentation I would need from them to verify my working there...should I get a letter of recommendation or have them sign my hours? Can I also list my hours under community service?

Although the internship was unpaid, it was a really fun experience and I learned a lot about databasing and what kind of work environment I would want.

Also, how does one go about applying to research/lab related internships?
I would be really interested in doing bio/chem lab work during the summer or even afterschool. I live in NYC, so it's probably very competitive to land an internship at a university lab.

^ Probably cause unpaid high school internships are sort of silly.

You don’t need to get documentation of community service hours (unless your school or courthouse demanded it?). The only thing I’d get is your supervisor and/or co-workers email addresses so that you can contact them at a later date if needed.

Ok, thanks.
There aren’t many meaningful internships available, though.

So, was this internship an utter waste of time?
