High School Internships

Hey guys, I've read a couple of posts here on CC where members are talking about internships. Where exactly do you guys intern and how did you get these opportunities? I'm interested but I honestly have no idea where to look

Check out local museums, perhaps?

Search around the forum. This question has been asked many times.

I work at a Crystallography lab at NYU, and got in with no connections, by the way. Just email professors at local colleges/universities in the department you’d like to work; many are very open to having students work with them. Remember that you shouldn’t take any rejections personally, however.
In your email just convey why you’re interested in their work and where your passions lie. Don’t make it BS, make it come from the heart, and they will react in kind.
Good Luck.

Local, smaller companies have less popularity and may be more interested in involving HS students. For me, I just emailed the local newspaper if they had unpaid internships and now I’m in after a simple app process! My situation was probably easier than it usually is though…

thanks for all the suggestions! and NO295208, i did do a quick search but I only found information about college internships

@college1216, do you actually write articles for the paper, or do you mostly help out with the process and “behind the scenes” work?

I currently have an internship at an American Indian Museum. I just sent them a letter talking about what I could do for them and talked about some of my skills that could be of use for their museum. I did the same thing for another Museum in Albuquerque.

I think most places WANT unpaid workers… If you have any questions, PM me!

I know a lot of people do research as interns, but that’s in most of the science technology engineering mathematics departments. How do people who more humanities oriented show their passions through an internship. For example, I’d like to be a lawyer. Should I just send out letters to law firms in my city saying I’d like to intern with them?

Yes. I got an internship after Career Day at my school by emailing a couple of the people I spoke to. One got back to me and after a quick phone interview and an emailed resume I got an internship at the state house working for my state representative. You should figure out which law firms do work that interests you and send them an email introducing yourself. If you know a lawyer who can help you, that is even better.
